Another head-on collision has claimed the life of a 42 year-old Silver Point man just one week after the loss of an 18 year-old high school student from the same type of collision. This crash happened Monday evening in front of JBeez Water Sports on Highway 56 North. Tennessee State Trooper Brandon Johnson said Thomas Higginbotham of Silver Point was traveling north in a 1990 Ford Ranger when a 2015 Chevy Traverse driven by Eric D. Fish, 39, of Smithville was approaching his from the south in his lane. Both vehicles, trying, to avoid a crash, ended up in the south bound lane hitting head on. Higginbotham had to be extricated from his vehicle which came to rest on its side. He was flown to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville from the scene where he succumb to his injuries in the emergency room. Fish and his passengers, wife Janet Fish, 40, and son Derek Fish, 20, were all injured. Janet Fish was flown from the scene to Skyline Medical Center while Fish and his son were taken by ambulance to Cookeville Regional Medical Center for treatment. Members of the DeKalb County Volunteer Fire Department’s extrication and rescue team responded with backup support from the Smithville Volunteer Fire Department.
