Several defendants were in court last week, making pleas in their criminal cases and receiving sentences.

Mark Denver Young, 41, of Barnes Mill Road pled guilty to burglary and aggravated burglary for a case that occurred in early 2021.

Sheriff Ray said that on January 1, 2021, Young allegedly stole a tiller from a shed on McMinnville Highway valued at $800. He also allegedly broke into a residence at the same location as the shed on McMinnville Highway and took a Remington 7 mm rifle with a Vortex scope valued at $600, a Marlin lever action 30-30 rifle valued at $500, a 22 caliber Cricket rifle valued at $200 and a Bore sight set valued at $200.

Young was sentenced to four years in one case, two years in the other, to run concurrently for a total of four years all suspended to supervised probation. He was given jail credit for 121 days.

Jo Ann Luna, 46, pled guilty to sale of a schedule II drug (methamphetamine) over .5 grams and was sentenced to eight years all suspended to TDOC probation, and a $2,000 fine. She was given 59 days jail credit.

Henry Thomas Butler, 33, of Dowelltown, pled guilty to a case from August 2020. On August 1, 2020, Butler entered a home and garage on Chapman Hollow Road where he took several items including two shotguns, two handguns, a leather western gun belt, several tools and a 1993 Toyota Corolla.

Butler entered a plea and received a sentence of four years to serve at least 30% before he is eligible for release. The sentence is to run concurrently with a Cumberland County TDOC sentence. Butler was given jail credit from August 2, 2020 to March 28, 2022.

Kevin Mansfield Curtis, 45, entered a best interest plea to one count of simple possession. He received an 11 months/29 day sentence, on supervised probation and was fined $750.
