Several Defendants Sentenced in Criminal Court

DeKalb Criminal Court was in session last Tuesday, May 17, when several defendants entered pleas in their cases. Judge Gary McKenzie presided over the court.

Chad Knowles, 51, pled to one count of attempted possession of over .5 grams of methamphetamine for an incident that occurred on November 25, 2018. He was sentenced to six years to serve 30 percent, plus a $2,000 fine and court costs. He was given 1,270 days jail credit.

Christopher Scruggs, 47, pled to one count of sale of a schedule II drug, meth, over .5 grams, a class B felony, for a case that occurred on January 28, 2021.  He was sentenced to eight years to serve 30 percent, and a $2,000 fine. He was given 411 days jail credit.

Shawn Patton, 43, pled guilty to possession of a schedule II drug, meth, under .5 grams, a class C felony. He was sentenced to three years, all suspended to supervised probation, except for time served, and a $2,000 fine. He was credited for 490 days served in jail.

Brianna Phillips, 25, pled to delivery of a schedule II drug, over .5 grams, a class B felony, for an arrest that happened on August 25, 2020. She was sentenced to eight years, suspended to supervised probation, with a $2,000 fine plus court costs. She was given 81 days jail credit.

Caleb McGhee, 26, pled guilty to theft of property over $2,500, a class D felony, for an incident that occurred on October 20, 2020. He was sentenced to three years suspended to supervised probation, plus court costs and restitution owed.

He also pled guilty to two counts of delivery of a schedule II drug, meth, over .5 grams, in a case that happened on January 28, 2021. He received a sentence of eight years suspended to supervised probation, a $2,000 fine and court costs in that case.

Ronald Barbosa Gutierrez, 25, pled guilty to a DUI charge that happened on August 5, 2021. He was sentenced to 11/29 all supervised by CPS probation except for 40 days to serve, and loss of license for one year. He was given a 40 day jail credit for time served.

James Frederick Summers, 43, pled guilty to crimes committed on June 30, 2020. He pled to one count of attempted auto burglary, and two counts of theft under $1,000, and was sentenced to 11/29 all suspended to supervised probation.

Denzel Young, 29, was facing charges of child abuse and neglect for a case that occurred on February 2, 2015. He pled guilty to domestic assault and was sentenced to 11/29 at 75 percent suspended to probation, and will be placed on mail-in probation as he is now out of state.

Terry Wayne Shores, 61, pled guilty to reckless endangerment for a case that happened on November 27, 2021. He was sentenced to 11/29 all suspended to CPS probation.

Robert Brock Pedigo, 22, pled guilty to charges levied in March 21, 2021. He pled to one count of reckless endangerment and two counts of theft under $1,000. He was sentenced to 11/29 all suspended to probation pursuant to judicial diversion.

Taylor Nicole Marshall, 24, pled to one count of reckless endangerment for a case that happened on September 4, 2021. She was sentenced to 11/29 all suspended to probation pursuant to judicial diversion.

Kyle Denton, 33, pled guilty to a November 11, 2020, DUI case. He was sentenced to 11/29 all suspended to probation, suspended by DeKalb County Recovery Court, 45 days to serve, and loss of his license for one year. He was given 45 days jail credit.

Dori Keith, 50, pled guilty to fraudulent use of a credit/debit card over $1,000 for a case that occurred on September 28, 2020. She received one year all suspended pursuant to judicial diversion.
