The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department made several arrests last week, including a couple of suspects who had weapons during their alleged crimes.

Sheriff Patrick Ray told the Smithville Review that 49-year-old William Oscar Meadows of Big Rock Road, Smithville, was arrested on March 8, for methamphetamine manufacture, deliver, sell or possess, armed dangerous felon, theft of property, violation of an order of protection, and tampering with evidence.

A deputy conducted a traffic stop on silver Ford F150 after it was observed driving on a closed roadway on Highway 56 (McMinnville Highway). After having the driver, Meadows, step out of the vehicle to read him his citations, Meadows allegedly pulled a clear glass pipe out of his pocket and busted it on the ground in an attempt to destroy evidence.

The deputy then placed Meadows in handcuffs and conducted a pat down search, and discovered a container in the man’s pocket containing a clear, crystal-like substance believed to be meth, with a weight of 9 grams.

Meadows also possessed a firearm, with the intent to go armed, during the commission of a dangerous felony. During the traffic stop, Meadows told authorities that he had a firearm under the driver’s seat of his vehicle. A Ruger LCP 9mm handgun was found loaded, and after running the firearm through dispatch NCIC, the gun was found to be stolen out of Jackson County. Having the weapon also violated an active order of protection against Meadows.

Meadows is under a $98,000 bond and will appear in court on April 18.

On March 9, 50-year-old David Eugene Driver of Arrowhead Drive, Smithville, was charged with driving on a revoked license 7th offense. He is under a $3,500 bond and will appear in court on March 24.

Sheriff Ray said that deputy was patrolling Pea Ridge Road when he noticed Driver driving a silver Dodge Dakota. The deputy initiated a traffic stop due to prior knowledge of Driver’s license was revoked.

On March 11, 22-year-old Brian Allen Dayton of Kings Court, Smithville, was arrested for methamphetamine manufacture, deliver, sell or possess, criminal impersonation, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is under a $20,000 bond

Sheriff Ray said that the DeKalb Sheriff’s Department executed a search warrant at a home on Kings Court in Smithville. Deputies spoke with the renter/leaser of the residence, who advised they were not sure if Dayton was at home, but that officer were allowed to go inside and search. A detective entered the residence and made contact with a white male in the far right bedroom of the mobile home. The man matched the driver’s license photo of Dayton, but advised his name was Jericho Green with a date of birth in September. Dayton eventually admitted his real name after being shown his driver’s license photo.

Dayton admitted to authorities that there was meth in the room where he was located. Authorities found .82 grams of a crystal-like substance believed to be meth was located, along with baggies, pipes, digital scales, and other drug paraphernalia.

That same day, 24-year-old Zachary Allen Thomas of East Main Street, Smithville, was charged with driving under the influence, and possession of a handgun under the influence. He is under a $5,000 bond and will be in court on April 7.

Authorities say that a deputy received a call about reckless driver in a green Dodge Ram pickup truck. The deputy made contact with a vehicle matching the description and observed the vehicle swerving in traffic.

After a traffic stop, Thomas was observed moving around in the vehicle and for the deputy’s safety, the man was asked to step out of the vehicle. When Thomas exited the vehicle, authorities say that a loaded 380 pistol fell out of his lap onto the ground. Authorities say that Thomas smelled of alcohol and submitted to standardize field sobriety task, which he performed poorly.

Also that day, 31-year-old Jerry Donald Cantrell of Adcock Cemetery Road, Smithville, was charged with violation of an order of protection. He is under a $5,000 bond and will appear in court on March 24.

Authorities say that Cantrell knowingly and willingly went to an address on Adcock Cemetery Road where the protected person resides.

On March 13, 37-year-old Antonio Juan Munoz-Hernandez of Adcock Cemetery Road, Smithville, was arrested for driving under the influence. He is under a $1,500 bond and is due in court on April 7.

While patrolling Sparta Highway, a deputy made contact with a white Lincoln car, off the roadway in a ditch, with Hernandez in the driver’s seat. The man was reportedly trying to get the car out of the ditch.

After removing Hernandez from the vehicle, the deputy reported a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person, as well as the mam being unsteady on his feet. A Smithville Police officer responded to the scene and performed standardized field sobriety tasks on the man, due to a language barrier. Hernandez performed poorly and could not complete the tasks due to his intoxication.

Hernandez’s vehicle was also reportedly involved in a motor accident just minutes prior, sideswiping another vehicle on Sparta Highway.
