It was a busy couple of weeks for the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department with several arrests made from drugs to vandalism.
Sheriff Patrick Ray told the Smithville Review that on June 29, 2021, 33-year-old Justin Matthew Cripps of Grandview Drive, Smithville, was arrested and charged with vandalism $3,500.
According to Sheriff Ray, on June 24, Cripps intentionally and knowingly broke property owned by the DeKalb County government. Cripps was seen on jail surveillance video walking around in the max dayroom area of the jail, striking the commissary box multiple times and causing the machine to dent in and break. Cripps was seen by the disciplinary board, where he did admit to breaking the machine. Cripps is due in court on August 5, 2021.
Also on June 29, 54-year-old Douglas Wayne Easey of Tubb Street, Liberty, was charged with violation of the sex offender registry. Sheriff Ray said that Easey was released from the Wilson County Jail on June 23, 2021, and has not reported to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department within the allotted time, which is 48 hours upon release. He is under a $5,000 bond and is due to appear in court on July 15.
On June 30, 39-year-old Derrick Edmond Hale of Church Street, Dowelltown, was charged with failure to appear and criminal impersonation.
According to Sheriff Ray, a deputy went to Church Street in Dowelltown to serve a failure to appear warrant on Hale, for expired registration, no seatbelt, and another failure to appear. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with a male subject, who stated that his name was Jared Hale, with a different date of birth. After an investigation, it was confirmed that the subject’s true identity was Derrick Edmond Hale. He is under a total bond of $2,500 and is due in court on July 15.
On July 1, 56-year-old Joey Lewis Derting was arrested for driving under the influence first offense. Authorities say that a deputy initiated a traffic stop on a green Chevy Cavalier on Woodbury Highway for the driver failing to maintain his lane of travel. The deputy made contact with the driver, Derting, who was found to have bloodshot glassy eyes along with constricted pupils. The deputy asked Derting to perform field sobriety tests, which he consented to and performed poorly. The deputy determined Derting to be impaired. His bond is set at $1,500 with a court date set for July 29.
On July 2, 38-year-old Jimmy Joel Farris of Restview Drive, Smithville, was arrested for methamphetamine manufacture deliver sale or possess. He is under a $10,000 bond and is due in court on July 29.
Sheriff Ray said that at approximately 11:36 p.m. a deputy was on patrol in the area of Holiday Haven Boat Ramp, when he observed two occupants sitting inside a white SUV. The deputy made a consensual encounter with the occupants and identified one of the occupants as Jimmy Farris. The man gave consent to search his vehicle, and after a warrant check was completed, the deputy located a clear baggy containing approximately 1.2 grams of a white crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine. Farris and the other occupant were read their Miranda Rights, which they understood and waved. Farris admitted to the substance being his. He was placed in custody and taken to the DeKalb County Jail.
The following day, Jesus Fernando Martinez-Padillo of Winding Way, McMinnville, TN, was charged with violation of an order of protection. Sheriff Ray said that Martinez-Padillo did violate an active no-contact order from bond conditions out of Warren County, TN. During a traffic stop on the vehicle he was driving, he had a female passenger. NCIC showed the active no-contact order with the female passenger named as the protected person and Martinez-Padillo being the respondent. Warren County 911 confirmed that they had a hard copy of the order in hand. He is under a $1,500 bond and is due in court on July 22.
On July 4, 20-year-old Jammy Wayne Bruce of Tabernacle Road, Smithville, was charged with sale and delivery of a schedule IV drug, and sale and delivery of a schedule VI drug. He is under a $15,000 bond.
According to Sheriff Ray, a deputy was on patrol when he observed a gray Ford Taurus being operated by a subject he knew from prior encounters had no license, and that the vehicle registration did not belong to that vehicle. The registration displayed was registered to a black Ford Ranger. The deputy initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Smith Road and Martin Street.
Upon approach, the deputy could smell marijuana emitting from the vehicle. During a search, the deputy found inside the man’s backpack, a clear baggy containing 28 grams of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana, as well as 20 yellow pills containing the imprint of R039, identified as Alprazolam. Bruce was placed into custody and transported to the jail.
The next day, 35-year-old Joseph Kilzer of Parkway Drive, Smithville, was arrested for public intoxication. He is under a $2,000 bond and is due in court on July 22.
Sheriff Ray said that a deputy responded to the area of Parkway Drive for a call of a male subject walking through people’s yards. The deputy made contact with Kilzer, who matched the description. Upon talking to Kilzer, he admitted to walking through the yards, while also stating that he had taken methamphetamine and was trying to get on Youtube. The deputy notice that the man was unsteady on his feet and fidgety. For his own safety, and the safety of the public, Kilzer was placed under arrest for public intoxication.
On July 6, 38-year old Warren Brandon Glasby of Spring Street, Manchester, TN, was charged with methamphetamine, manufacture, sale, deliver or possess. He is under a $10,000 bond and is due in court on July 22.
According to Sheriff Ray, Glasby exchanged with another person, 41-year-old Jeremy Ray Likens of Freeman Street, Tullahoma, TN, an object later determined to me approximately 1.5 ounces of a clear crystal-like substance believed to be meth.
Likens was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, methamphetamine, manufacture, sale, deliver or possess, and fabricating or tampering with evidence, after he attempted to throw a clear substance believed to be meth into some dirt after being confronted by law enforcement. Authorities say Likens was found with three ounces of what is believed to be meth, as well as a glass pipe.
Likens is under a $17,500 bond and is also due in court on July 22.
That same day, 58-year-old Robert Lewis Judkins of Alex Lane, Smithville, was arrested for vandalism.
