Sheriff’s Deputies Make Several Arrests

The DeKalb County Sheriffs Department was busy over the 4th of July holiday weekend, making several arrests, including those for assault, DUI, and vandalism.

Sheriff Patrick Ray said that on July 1, 44-year-old Elisha Marie Boles of McMinnville was arrested for forgery and bringing contraband into a penal institution. Her bond is set at $7,500 and she will be in court July 18.

Sheriff Ray said that on June 11 Boles forged a check in the amount of $700, forging the owner’s name, and cashed it at Liberty State Bank. While in the jail at 6:55 pm, she was found with a bag containing 1.1 grams of a green leafy substance.

That same day, 57-year-old Joe Anthony Young of New Home Road, Smithville was arrested for driving on a revoked license. He is under a $2,000 bond and will be in court on July 18.

Sheriff Ray said that a deputy was patrolling Cookeville Highway when he made contact with a maroon Chevrolet. After running the vehicle’s tag, it came back as expired.

After a traffic stop, the deputy spoke with the driver, Young, who admitted that he had no license. A background check revealed that Young’s license had been revoked for failure to provide insurance on August 13, 2023.

On July 2, 25-year-old Luis Fernando Alvarez of Campbell Road, Smithville, was arrested for driving under the influence. His bond is $2,000 and he will be in court July 18.

According to Sheriff Ray, a deputy was traveling northeast on Short Mountain Highway when he observed a blue Dodge Charger traveling down the roadway with no rear taillights, and leave its lane of travel multiple times.

After a traffic stop, deputies reported that the driver, Alvarez, smelled of alcohol. Alvarez submitted to but performed poorly on standardized field sobriety tasks. The man allegedly admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages prior to driving.

On July 3, Jalen Armani Wofford of Cookeville was arrested for aggravated criminal trespassing. He is under a $2,500 bond and he is due in court on July 18.

Sheriff Ray said that Wofford entered a residence without the owner’s consent and after being confronted and asked to leave several times, he refused.

Also on July 3, 35-year-old Alberto Antonio Pardo of McMinnville was arrested for driving under the influence. He is under a $2,000 bond and will be in court on July 18.

Sheriff Ray said that a deputy was traveling south on South Congress Boulevard when he observed a white Dodge Ram leave its lane of travel. The deputy then conducted a traffic stop and spoke with the driver, Pardo, who had a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person.

Pardo allegedly admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages prior to driving. Pardo reportedly had red watery eyes and slurred speech. He submitted to but performed poorly on standardized field sobriety tasks.

July 4, 44-year-old Leonel Sanchez Rodriquez of Allen Street, Smithville, was arrested for aggravated assault and vandalism. His bond is $8,500 and he will be in court on July 25.

Sheriff Patrick Ray said that Rodriquez and another subject were arguing when Rodriquez picked up a cinder block and threw it at the individual, but the cinder block struck a truck belonging to someone else. Rodriquez then threw another cinder block striking the other male in the head causing a laceration. The victim was transported by EMS to the hospital for injuries sustained in the assault.

On July 5, 41-year-old Jason John Grady of Sparta was arrested for possession of a controlled substance for sell, delivery or manufacture, tampering with evidence, and simple possession of a schedule II drug. He is under a $40,500 total bond and will be in court July 25.

Sheriff Ray said that while serving Grady with a warrant from General Sessions Court, a deputy conducted a search of the man’s wallet and located a piece of aluminum foil, and a one-dollar bill, with a white powdery substance believed to be heroin that weighed .6 grams, and two half pink pills identified as oxycodone.

During the search, the deputy placed the suspected drugs on the hood of the patrol car to continue the search, when Grady allegedly grabbed the items and tried to dump them, destroying evidence so it could not be tested.

That same say, 24-year-old Kristofer Ryan Barrett, who is listed as homeless, was arrested for driving under the influence, and was also charged under a sealed indictment returned by the grand jury last week for burglary and aggravated burglary. His bond is set at $2,000 for the DUI charge, and he is due in court on July 18. He will be arraigned on the burglary offense July 23.

Sheriff Ray said that a deputy was traveling north on South Mountain Street when he observed a black Chevrolet Silverado leave its lane of travel. The deputy conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Jacobs Pillar Road and Braswell Lane and made contact with the driver, Barrett, who reportedly had a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person. The man also had red watery eyes, slurred speech, and admitted to having consumed alcoholic beverages prior to driving. Barrett submitted to but performed poorly on standardized field sobriety tasks.

On July 6, 65-year-old Ricky Lee Dowell of Wade Street, Smithville, was charged with driving on a revoked license. He is under a $1,500 bond and he will be in court July 25.

Sheriff Ray said that on July 5 a deputy was patrolling East Broad Street when he noticed Dowell driving a Chrysler Pacifica. Having prior knowledge that Dowell’s license was revoked, the deputy conducted a traffic stop and confirmed through a background check that his license was revoked. Dowell was previously cited for the same offense on May 12. The license was revoked for failure to maintain future financial responsibility on June 26, 2023.

Also on July 6, 30-year-old Kevin Jacob Lack of Indian Trail, Sparta, was arrested for driving on a suspended license. His bond is set at $2,500 and he is due in court on July 25.

Sheriff Ray said that a deputy was patrolling Sparta Highway when he noticed a black Dodge Ram with a broken driver’s side headlight. After a traffic stop the deputy made contact with Lack, whom, after a background check through central dispatch, revealed that his driver license was suspended for failure to pay fines and court costs in White County on January 9, 2024.

On July 7, 27-year-old Erasmo Godinez of Blue Springs Road, Smithville, was arrested for driving under the influence. His bond is $2,000 and he will be in court July 25.

Sheriff Ray said that a deputy was traveling south on South Congress Boulevard when he observed a black Dodge Durango leave its lane of travel while speeding 45-mph in a 30-mph zone. After a traffic stop, the deputy reported that Godinez smelled of alcohol and that he admitted to having consumed three or four alcoholic beverages prior to driving. He also reportedly had red watery eyes and submitted to, but performed poorly on, field sobriety tasks.

On July 9, 35-year-old Ian Michael Wilson of Neal Drive, Smithville, was arrested for domestic assault, child abuse neglect. He is under a $7,500 bond and he will be in court on July 25.

Sheriff Ray said that Wilson placed his wife in fear of immediate bodily injury by verbally threatening her, and throwing objects at here, while she was upstairs with her minor child. Authorities also alleged that he repeatedly slapped his nine-year-old stepson in the face causing redness, as the child was crying and begging him to stop. Wilson reportedly appeared to be under the influence at the time of the offense.

On July 11, 36-year-old Jason Eugene Phillips of Gainesboro Grade, Cookeville, TN, was placed in custody for public intoxication. He is under a $1,500 bond and is due in court on July 25.

A deputy was dispatched to Cookeville Highway for a report of a suspicious person stumbling on the edge of the roadway. The deputy made contact with Phillips, who allegedly had an odor of alcohol, slurred speech, and with bloodshot glossy eyes. He reportedly admitted to consuming alcohol earlier in the day.

That same day, Andrea Colleen Claspell of Greenhill Road, Smithville, was arrested for 2 aggravated assault, aggravated burglary, vandalism, DUI second offense, violation of the implied consent law, and driving on a revoked license. She is under a $56,000 bond, and is due in court on July 25.

According to Sheriff Ray, Claspell allegedly drove her vehicle towards another woman, placing the victim in fear of serious injury. She also allegedly ran over the victim’s bicycles, kids’ toys, and a trampoline,

She then entered the residence of a male and placing him in fear of serious bodily injury by striking him in the face, resulting in EMS being called to check the man out. Authorities say Claspell appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or narcotics while driving a Toyota Tacoma, through the victim’s yard, to the roadway, where the vehicle became stuck in a ditch.

The vehicle was later located on Green Hill Road with extensive damage. Claspell was later located walking down the roadway with a bottle of wine in her hand. She reportedly had slurred speech, was unsteady on her feet, and admitted to driving the vehicle as well as consuming alcohol. Claspell had a previous DUI conviction on December 10, 2020 in DeKalb County.
