The identification of a skull found near the shore on Center Hill Lake a couple of weeks ago has still not been determined, but the find has piqued interest in another missing person case connected to the same area.
Cookeville Police are seeking information regarding the whereabouts of a woman who has been missing since January 2022. Kathy Ann Spradlin, 43, of Cookeville, was last seen getting into a vehicle in the area of Ponder Road in DeKalb County on January 2, 2022, at approximately 4:30 p.m.
Spradlin is described as 5 feet 6 inches, 105 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. She also has a cross tattoo on her left arm, a lower back tattoo, a vine with stars tattooed on her calf and an eyebrow piercing.
The CPD said that anyone with any information on Spradlin's whereabouts can call Detective Charlotte Austin at 931-520-5370.
The skull that was discovered in the area was found on a steep embankment near Center Hill Lake. They are believed to be that of 29-year-old Matthew Braswell, who had not been seen or heard from since he fled into the woods after a crash on Ponder Road in December 2021. Several searches were mounted but yielded no results.
A man and his dog, walking the banks of Center Hill Lake, discovered a human skull about 50 yards from the shoreline, lodged in a fallen tree on a steep embankment.
Sheriff Ray said that as the crow flies, the location of the crash site to where the skull was found was approximately 1.6 miles away, though with the rugged terrain actual distance is actually much further.
Braswell was last seen wearing blue jean shorts and possibly a white tank top shirt. He stands six feet tall and weighs 150 pounds. His hair and eyes are brown in color and he has facial tattoos with a money sign “$” over his right eye and the name “Kim” over his left eye. Braswell has a mustache/goatee. Braswell was reported not to have a primary address.
Braswell’s family has been notified about the find, though authorities are still waiting on confirmation of the identity.
