The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department had a light week with only a couple of public intoxication arrests keeping deputies busy.

Sheriff Patrick Ray reported that 29-year-old Dalton Grady Moore of Poss Road, Smithville, was arrested on August 24, for public intoxication. He is under a $1,500 bond and is due in court on September 1.

According to Sheriff Ray, a deputy was dispatched to the Sparta Highway area on a report of a suspicious person. The deputy later made contact with Moore in the backyard of a residence.

After speaking with Moore, the man told the deputy that he was being chased by several people and was in danger. Authorities say the man appeared to be under the influence of narcotics and due to him being a danger to himself and the public, he was placed in custody.

On August 27, 30-year-old Racheal Brooke Kirby of Dilton Mankin Road, Murfreesboro, was arrested for public intoxication. She is under a $1,500 bond and she is set to appear in court on September 15.

Sheriff Ray said that a deputy was patrolling Sparta Highway when he noticed a female crossing the highway. When the deputy made contact with the woman, Kirby, authorities say she was unsteady on her feet and smelled of alcohol. For her safety and that of the public she was placed under arrest.
