Smithville Police Have a Busy March

DUIs kept the Smithville Police Department hopping in the month of March, with a couple of drug arrests mixed in.

Police Chief Mark Collins told the Smithville Review that on March 2, 34-year-old Ryan Marsinko of Murfreesboro was arrested for DUI, possession of a handgun under the influence, violation of the implied consent law, and driving on roadways laned for traffic.

A patrol officer observed a red Nissan Titan failing to maintain its lane of travel, crossing the center line on East Broad Street.

After a traffic stop, police allege that Marsinko had a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person. The man then refused field sobriety tasks and was placed under arrest. A Glock 43x handgun was found in the man’s waistband.

Marsinko is under a $7,000 bond and appeared in court on March 28.

That same day, 35-year-old Jeffery Dale Penuel of Mt. Juliet was arrested for two counts of domestic assault.

Chief Collins said that officers responded to a domestic assault call on O’Conner Street, and upon arrival, learned that Penuel had allegedly struck two victims by striking them in the head and pushing them into a wall. He is under a $7,000 bond and was in court on March 28.

On March 3, 33-year-old Dustin Lynn Sissom of Jennings Lane, was arrested for evading arrest and DUI.

According to Chief Collins, a patrol officer observed a black motorcycle operating at a high rate of speed on East Broad Street. The officer got behind the motorcycle and activated his lights, but the rider attempted to evade police.

After several miles of a pursuit, Sissom did pull over, and police say they noticed a strong odor of alcohol and that the man was unsteady on his feet. Sisson allegedly admitted to having alcoholic beverages at a bar, but he refused field sobriety tasks.

He is under a $6,500 bond and was in court on March 28.

That same day, 51-year-old Eric Matthew Blum of Nashville was arrested for DUI.

An officer noticed a gray Toyota Tacoma failing to maintain its lane of travel, crossing the center line and the right side of the roadway several times. After a traffic stop, police say Blum had red watery eyes, slurred speech, and an odor of alcohol.

Blum allegedly admitted to having four beers at the Gentlemen’s Club, and he performed poorly on field sobriety tasks. He is under a $1,500 bond and was in court on March 28.

On March 4, 47-year-old Tiffany Hendrixson of Smithville was placed under arrest for manufacture delivery, sell, or possession of a schedule IV drug, possession of drug paraphernalia, and was cited for traffic control.

Chief Collins said that an officer observed a vehicle run a red light on West Broad Street, and after a traffic stop, he noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the woman. Hendrixon allegedly told the officer that there was a marijuana cigarette in the ashtray, and a search revealed three joints, several burnt roaches, and two pills identified as Xanax.

Hendrixson was arrested and her bond was set at $9,000, She was in court on March 28.

On March 6, 33-year-old Jerry Cantrell of Adcock Cemetery Road, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, simple possession of a schedule II drug, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police say that officers responded to a report of a fight on Jackson Street, and upon arrival, Cantrell was seen leaving the scene. Officers requested that Cantrell come speak with them, and started to walk in their direction before darting behind a building in order to remove his possessions.

Items found at the scene were a pink substance believed to be meth as well as a glass pipe. Cantrall’s bond was set at $20,000 and he was in court on March 21.

On March 13, 44-year-old Joshua Crawford of Ditty Road, Cookeville, was arrested for DUI and driving on a suspended license.

According to Chief Collins, a Smithville officer conducted a traffic stop on East Broad Street on a white Toyota Tacoma for failure to maintain its lane of travel. Upon contact with the driver, the officer noticed Crawford’s eyes as watery and the man had slurred speech. There was also allegedly an odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle.

Crawford allegedly stated that he had been at the Gentleman’s Club for the previous four hours. He consented to, and performed poorly on field sobriety tasks, and a computer check revealed that his license had been suspended. He was given a $4,000 bond and was in court on April 4.

On March 17, 33-year-old Anthony Richard Shay of Oak Drive, Smithville was charged with DUI.

Authorities say that an officer on patrol observed a vehicle fail to comply with the move over law while passing a deputy who had stopped a vehicle. Upon contact with the driver, police say the man had red watery eyes, slurred speech, and a strong odor of alcohol about his person.

Shay allegedly stated that he had four beers and a shot of whiskey at a bar prior to driving. He performed poorly on sobriety tasks and was placed in custody. He is under a $2,500 bond and was in court on April 4.

That same day, 46-year-old Cynthia Ann Reeder of Morgan Drive, was charged with domestic assault and disorderly conduct.

Chief Collins said that officers received a call of an unwanted guest at Morgan Drive, and upon arrival observed a group of people yelling and cussing in the front yard. After separating them, and speaking with a witness, it was determined by officers that Reeder was the primary aggressor between her and her boyfriend, and did cause bodily injury to his face.

Reeder was placed under a $4,000 bond and was in court on April 4.

On March 18, Smithville Police responded to a tip that juveniles were being sold alcohol at Broadway Market. After reviewing security footage, and through an investigation, the cashier, 28-year-old Nicholas Dylan Gambill of Smithville was cited for sale of alcohol to an underaged person. His court date was April 4.

On March 21, 50-year-old Shawn Edward Soales was arrested for altering of registration plates and driving with a suspended license.

According to Collins, a patrol officer ran Soales’ plate and a computer check came back that the plate had expired almost a year earlier. The sticker on the plate showed the plate in date. A further inspection of the plate revealed that it had been altered and cut to make it show the date.

Soales allegedly admitted to taking the decal off of his girlfriend’s car and cutting it in half, placing it over his. It was also revealed that Soales had a suspended license out of Alabama. He was given a $6,500 bond and was in court on April 4.

On March 23, 32-year-old Travis Joe Davenport of Dowelltown was charged with meth manufacture, deliver, sale, or possess, Xanax manufacture, deliver, sale, or possess, and driving on a revoked license.

Police say that an officer observed a white GMC Sonoma traveling on West Broad Street, and after checking the registration it was learned that the driver had a revoked license. Central Dispatch also warned that Davenport had an arrest warrant for him out of Putnam County.

After a search of the vehicle, 18 grams of a crystal-like substance believed to be meth, 14 Xanax bars, and eight small baggies for resale were found.

Davenport was under a $62,500 bond and was in court on April 4.

On March 26, 42-year-old Teodora Garcia of Wade Street, was charged with DUI and open container.

Officers received a call reporting a male subject passed out in the driver’s seat of an orange Dodge Ram on South Congress Boulevard. Officers made contact with the vehicle and reported seeing Garcia passed out with an open container of alcohol in the cup holder next to him.

After getting Garcia awake and opening the door, authorities say a strong odor of alcohol was coming from the vehicle. Garcia also reportedly had red watery eyes. After exiting the truck, police say he was unsteady on his feet and he was having trouble keeping his balance.

Police say Garcia performed poorly on field sobriety tasks, and he was placed in custody. He is under a $2,500 bond and was in court on April 11.

The following day, 24-year-old Tyler Brock of Shady Drive, was arrested for driving on a suspended license.

Chief Collins said that an officer conducted a traffic stop on a black Cadillac on Nashville Highway, due to having prior knowledge that the driver had a suspended license. Brock is under a $2,500 bond and was in court on April 11.

On March 30, 21-year-old Russell Elliot of Brush Creek was arrested for DUI, possession of a handgun while under the influence, and speeding.

While on patrol, and officer clocked a vehicle on East Broad Street doing 70 miles per hour. After a traffic stop, the officer noticed a strong odor of alcohol coming from the driver, and that his speech was slurred. Elliot performed poorly on field sobriety tasks, and allegedly admitted to consuming several beers. A fully loaded 9mm handgun was located in the middle of the seat next to where the man was sitting.

He was under a $8,500 bond and will be in court on April 18.

On March 31, 30-year-old Destry Jordan Wiggins of Evins Mill Road was charged with DUI.

Chief Collins said that while on routine patrol, an officer observed a vehicle failing to maintain its lane of travel, with an improper display of its tags. After a traffic stop, police say that Wiggins had a strong odor of alcohol about his person and he had red watery eyes.

Wiggins was reportedly in a confused state as to his direction of travel, and allegedly admitted to consuming alcohol at a bar he had just left. He performed poorly on field sobriety tasks, and refused the implied consent law, but a warrant was issued for a blood draw.

He is under a $3,500 bond and will be in court on April 18.
