The Smithville Police Department had a busy month, arresting several people for drugs, assaults and trespassing infractions.
On July 29, 59-year-old David Ray Johnson was cited for Theft and Criminal Trespass. Police say that Johnson was observed exiting Wal-Mart with $222.39 worth of merchandise without paying for said items.
On August 3, 41-year-old Megan Jo Grooms of 913 Earl Avenue was arrested for Domestic Assault. Officers responded to the Grooms residence for a welfare check on the victim. On arrival, the officer spoke with Grooms who denied the victim was there.
After a few minutes, the victim did start yelling help and ran out of the house with Grooms chasing after him. Upon investigation, it was determined that Grooms and the victim had been arguing earlier in the morning and Grooms had stab him with a pencil and a metal fork leaving visible marks.
That same day, 51-year-old David Eugene Driver of 205 Arrowhead Drive was arrested for Driving While Suspended/Revoked. While patrolling Cookeville Highway, the officer observed Driver operating a motor vehicle. The officer had prior knowledge that Driver did not have a valid license and stopped him.
A license check with Central Dispatch confirmed his license are currently revoked for a DUI in 1998. The officer had issued Driver a citation for this same offense on July 26. Driver’s license state that he is a habitual offender. Due to this offence continuing, he was taken into custody, and is under a $10,000 bond. He is due in court September 8.
On August 7, 24-year-old Mathew Conner Peak was arrested for Theft. Peak can allegedly be seen on surveillance video taking an Onn power bank from Wal-Mart and leaving the store without paying for the item. Peak was located under the bridge on West Broad Street and the power bank was recovered and returned to the store. Peak is under a $1,500 bond and will be in court on September 8.
Timothy William Patrick, 33, was arrested on August 11, for Aggravated Assault, Carrying or Possession of Weapon, and Distinguishing Numbers, Alteration, Sale or Possession.
Police responded to a physical domestic and made contact with the victim. Patrick and the victim got into an altercation and was told to leave the house, when Patrick allegedly became angry and struck her with a television and then pointed a firearm at her. The firearm was eventually located at the scene that fit the description the victim gave. The firearm also had its serial number removed.
Police say that Patrick is a felon and not legally allowed to possess a firearm. He is under a $11,500 bond and appeared in court on August 25.
On August 14, 31-year-old Elias Vazquez Mendes of 725 South Mountain Street was arrested for Domestic Assault. Police responded to a domestic and seen where the victim had a red mark on her left leg. It was discovered that the parties got into an argument and Mendes popped the victim with a towel leaving the red mark on the victim. He is under a $3,500 and set to be in court on September 8.
That same day, 35-year-old Johnathon Adam Rice and 37-year-old Amanda Alice Atnip were cited for Trespass. Police were dispatched to Center Hill Village Apartments for unwanted guest call. The officer did make contact with both parties and discovered they have previously been trespassed from this property.
On August 19, 32-year-old Christopher Brock Tatrow of 600 Eeat Broad Street was arrest for Public Intoxication. Police was dispatched to the area of Smith Road in reference to a male subject walking down the road yelling at people and talking with a stop sign.
On arrival, the officer made contact with Tatrow who appeared to be disoriented, unsteady on his feet, and talking out of his head. It was discovered that Tatrow had taken some meth earlier. For his and the public’s safety, he was taken into custody. He is under a $1,500 bond and due in court September 8.
On August 21, 39-year-old Jessica French Hale of 3916 Short Mountain Highway was arrested for Criminal Trespass. Officers were dispatched to Wal-Mart in reference to an unwanted guest. Once on scene, the officers were informed that Hale was inside the store, but one of the store managers confronted and after a small verbal exchange she left the store and ran across the parking lot.
The officers reviewed video footage in which the they could see Hale inside the store. Hale was trespassed from Wal-Mart on July 15 and has received two citations since. Hale was located and taken into custody. She is under a $1,500 and due in court on September 8.
Jason Bradley Cripps, 48, of 2210 Old Snow Hill Road was arrested on August 28 for Public Intoxication. Officer was patrolling North Congress Boulevard when he noticed a male subject stumbling while walking on the shoulder of the road. The officer made contact with the subject, identified as Jason Cripps who was unsteady on his feet and had slurred speech.
It was discovered that Cripps had taken Suboxone earlier in the morning and had a strong odor of marijuana on his person. For his and the public’s safety, he was taken into custody. He is under a $1,500 and set for court September 15.
That same day, 18-year-old Bryson Tyler High of Murfreesboro was arrested for Evading Arrest. While patrolling West Broad Street an officer noticed a vehicle in front of the Dairy Queen traveling at 58 mph in a 40 mph zone with a headlight out.
The officer initiated the patrol car blue lights and sirens and turned around for a traffic stop at which time, the car continued down West Broad, outbound. The vehicle continued through the red light at Wal-Mart and past the Ford dealership with speed reaching 80+ where the driver, High, finally came to a stop at the old Plaza Center on West Broad Street. He is under a $15,000 bond and is due in court September 15.
Also on that day, 31-year-old Stephanie Michelle Mooneyham of 223 Toad Road was cited for Criminal Trespass. Police responded to Dairy Queen due to an unwanted guest that had entered the restaurant and started yelling for a drink cup. Mooneyham has been trespassed and warned not to be in the restaurant.
40-year-old Jenny Elizabeth Murphy of 7590 Smithville Highway was arrested on August 30 for Theft. Murphy was observed by a Dollar General Store employee stuffing merchandise into her purse. Once the employee confronted her, she then dropped several items throughout the store as she was running out of the store. Murphy was later found at a residence and taken into custody. Her Bond is set at $2,500 and she is due in court on September 15.
