The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department made several arrests last week, including that of a wanted fugitive out of South Carolina.

Sheriff Patrick Ray told the Smithville Review that 42-year-old Richard Rae Conrad Jr. of Green Acres Drive, Smithville, was arrested on May 13 on a fugitive from justice warrant.

According to Sheriff Ray, a DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department detective arrested Conrad for active warrants out of Greenville, SC, for criminal sexual contact with a minor 3rd degree, and commit or attempt of a lude act victim under 16 years and actor over 14 years. Greenville authorities advised that they would do a full extradition of Conrad.

He is under a $75,000 bond and is set to appear in court on May 27.

On May 10, 42-year-old Amy Renee Ford of Clever Creek Road, Watertown, TN, was arrested for methamphetamine manufacture deliver sell or possess after a 911 hang up call.

Sheriff Ray said that a deputy was dispatched to a 911 hang up call in the area of Dry Creek, at the swimming hole, and when the deputy arrived, he made contact with a male and female sitting in a red Chevy truck. The deputy reported that the pair seemed startled and nervous, and confirmed that they had called 911.

The deputy obtained information from the subjects and both were checked for outstanding warrants. Amy Ford was found to have a warrant out of Smith County. When the deputy placed Ford into custody, the woman reportedly handed over a bag of a green leafy substance, believed to be marijuana, and the driver reported that needles and pipes used to smoke marijuana were in the vehicle. A search revealed a silver container with 1.5 grams of a white crystal like substance believed to be meth, as well as needles. Ford admitted that the substance was hers.

Ford was transported to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department with no further incident. She is under a $10,000 bond and due to appear in court on May 27.

The following day, 54-year-old Joe Anthony Young of Lee Homer Road, Smithville, was rearrested and charged with implements for escape and aggravated assault.

Sheriff Ray said that a DeKalb correctional officer went to one of the holding cells to remove inmate Joey Young to finish Young’s booking procedure. Authorities say that Young became noncompliant and made a swift movement towards the door of the cell in an attempt to escape.

Young also allegedly committed aggravated assault on a correctional officer by grabbing the female officer’s arm and an electronic control device, a Taser, in an attempt to cause bodily harm. According to Sheriff Ray, the assault occurred as officers were attempting to un-cuff Young

Young is under a total bond of $17,500 and is set to appear in court on May 20.

On May 12, 38-year-old Natasha Anne Sellars of Evins Mill Road, Smithville, was arrested and charged with resisting stop frisk halt or search and disorderly conduct. She is under a $1,000 bond and is due in court on May 20.

Authorities say that a deputy responded to Evins Mill Road for a call of a female walking in the roadway, yelling and screaming, and causing a disturbance. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with Sellars, yelling, and walking in the roadway. The deputy gave her several commands to stop but she refused. She was placed into custody.

On May 15, 21-year-old Robert Stephen Derrick of Toad Road, Dowelltown, was arrested for resisting stop frisk halt or search and failure to appear in court.

Sheriff Ray said that a deputy was patrolling Floyd Drive when he stopped to perform a welfare check of a subject walking. When the deputy got out of his patrol car, he noticed that the man was Robert Derrick, of whom the deputy had prior knowledge of having active warrants. The deputy asked Derrick to come over to the car, but Derrick allegedly said that he would not and then took off running. After a short distance that man was taken into custody.

Derrick is under a $4,500 bond and is due in court on June 3.

The following day, 44-year-old Christopher Keith Tyler of Center Brook Court in Hartsville, TN, was arrested and charged with domestic assault. He is under a $5,000 bond and is due to appear in court on June 3.

According to Ray, a deputy responded to Terrell Road, off of Sparta Highway, for a domestic call. Upon arrival the deputy made contact with the caller who advised they had seen a male and female get into an altercation. The caller stated that they witnessed the male dragging the female into a wooded area.

The deputy located the two subjects on the ground and the female allegedly had lacerations on her face. The male was identified as Tyler and he was placed into custody.
