Flooding conditions are expected to worsen over the weekend as more rain heads this way leaving forecasters to predict up to four more inches of the wet stuff before it’s over Sunday morning. The continuing deluge has forced schools to close Friday.
Chances of rain are 100 percent both Friday and Saturday with the mid-state under an enhanced risk of severe storms on Saturday. Highs will reach near 70 on Saturday and a cold front coming behind the unseasonably warm weather will cause instability and the chance of strong and perhaps tornadic storms.
Steady rains at the first of the week forced closure of several roads across DeKalb County and the closure of schools Wednesday and Thursday since some areas were still inaccessible by sun-up Thursday.
Law enforcement is urging residents to use caution when taking to the roads as the rain resumes Thursday evening as some roads will again be overtaken by water. “Turn around, don’t drown” is the saying lawmen want motorists to remember in the coming days.
The weather is expected to dry out Sunday and during the first of the week.
