Tail Light Out Leads to Meth Arrests

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department made several arrests over the past week, including meth and DUI arrests.

According to Sheriff Patrick Ray, on April 23, 48-year-old Stephanie Ann Pierce of Sparta was charged with methamphetamine manufacture deliver sell or possess. She is under a $20,000 bond and is due in court on May 9.

Sheriff Ray said that a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Midway Road due to a driver side tail light being out. Pierce reportedly had two people with her in the vehicle and admitted she did not have valid insurance. She did not give consent to search the vehicle, but did give consent to search her person. The two occupants also agreed for a person search.

Deputies found a cylinder in a man’s pocket with a crystal-like substance. After retrieving that, a full search of the vehicle was done. A green cigarette pack was found with .94 grams a crystal-like substance believed to be meth, and in a black bag authorities discovered paraphernalia including a black scale with a powdery substance. No one claimed any of it was theirs.

Also arrested was 23-year-old Hunter Ray Murphy of Smithville, who garnered the same charge plus possession drug paraphernalia, and 59-year-old David Lloyd Close of Smithville. Bond for each is set at $22,500 with a May 9 court date.

On April 22, 34-year-old Juan Francisco Ferreiras of Smithville was charged with DUI. He is under a $2,500 bond and he will be in court on May 9.

Authorities responded to a hit and run call on Coconut Ridge Road with property damage. The deputies made contact with the driver, who advised he had left to take the damage vehicle to his home and returned in a different vehicle to speak with the home owner. Authorities say they noticed strong odor of alcohol, coming from Ferreiras and he allegedly admitted to drinking. He refused sobriety task and was placed under arrest.

On April 23, 35-year-old Anthony Wayne Tramel of Alexandria was charged with driving on revoked third offense. He is under a $3,500 bond and will be in court on May 16.

A deputy was patrolling on Sparta Highway and noticed a green GMC truck without a license plate cross the dotted white line. Deputies say Tramel had no license and two prior convictions.

On April 24, 21-year-old Ricoryon Lamontez Henderson of Murfreesboro was charged with two counts of assault.

Sheriff Ray said that Henderson entered an inhabited residence on Corley Street, Dowelltown with the intent to commit a theft and/or bodily harm to a resident inside. Henderson entered through a bedroom window after setting fire to property outside. A female and a four-year-old son were assaulted.

He is accused of taking the resident’s Micheal Kors purse valued at $250, setting fire to personal property by setting fire to a table and flower pot outside valued at $90, a bicycle valued at $40 and a portion of the yard. Officials say he used gasoline as the accelerant.

Henderson has a total bond of $15,000 and he is due in court on May 9.

On April 27, 60-year-old Kevin Douglas Young of Smithville was arrested for DUI, His bond is set at $2,500 and his court date is set for May 16.

A deputy witnessed a vehicle leave its lane of travel multiple times and conducted a traffic stop. Authorities say Young had a strong odor and his speech was slurred. He also reportedly performed poorly on field sobriety tasks, and admitted to consuming three or four alcoholic beverages.

That same day, 40-year-old Michael Brandon Colwell of Smithville was arrested for DUI and driving on a revoked. His total bond is $13,000 and his court date is set for May 16.

Deputies were dispatched to the Putnam County line for a wreck without injuries. Authorities say Colwell had strong odor, slurred speech, and admitted to consuming two shots of Fireball. He refused field sobriety, and reportedly has a prior DUI.

On April 28, 28-year-old Skylar Fox was charged with DUI and contraband into a penal institution.

A deputy responded Coconut Ridge Road in response to a female driving a silver Chevy Silverado. The deputy witnessed the truck driving on wrong side of the road and after a traffic stop deputies say the driver was dozing in and out of consciousness and refused field sobriety. They also report the woman had a strong odor of marijuana.

As the correctional officer was escorting her, a glass container with 13 ¾ white pills believed to be lorazepam fell off her person. She is under a $11,500 bond and she is due in court on May 9.

That same day, 27-year-old Ronald Barbosa Gutierrez of Smithville was charged with driving on revoked. He has an $8,000 bond and will be in court on May 16.
