Business owners should take notice of deadlines that are quickly approaching that will pertain to them during tax season.
“We are less than one month away from the due date for most Tennessee businesses that need to file their business tax,” said County Court Clerk Jimmy Poss. “The fiscal yea- end for most businesses is December, meaning that their business tax returns and payments are due to Department of Revenue no later than April 15, 2019.”
The clerk wants business owners to be clear on the wording of the law so they do not get into difficulty with the government come tax time.
“Your filing and payment date are NOT the same as the expiration date for your license,” Poss pointed out. “The license expiration date is 30 days AFTER your taxes are due to be filed and paid.”
The Department of Revenue will send postcard reminders to businesses that do not have a TNTAP filing username established yet, reminding them to do so right away so they can file and pay online by the due date.
“Anyone needing assistance establishing a TNTAP logon, filing or submitting payment for a business tax renewal may contact our office for assistance,” Poss offered. “I personally provide assistance for not only business tax filings and payment submissions, but also sales and use tax, (HVUT) Heavy Vehicle use tax and obtaining FEIN Federal Employee Identification numbers. Please contact us with any questions.”
