Three people were taken to the hospital last week after a car collided with a flatbed truck south of Smithville.

Three people were injured last week after a two-vehicle crash south of Smithville.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, on Wednesday, November 3, 32-year-old Cody Murphy of Smithville driving a 2006 Nissan Altima traveling north on Highway 56 South (McMinnville Highway) near the County Waste Collection site. At the same time 84-year-old James Lattimore of Smithville traveling in a 2005 Dodge flatbed pickup traveling south. Authorities say that the Dodge turned into the path of the Altima, with the Nissan slamming into the truck.

Deputies with the DeKalb Sheriff’s Department, DeKalb Fire, DeKalb EMS, and Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Chris DeLong responded to the scene.

Murphy was traveling with his wife, Michaela, and three juveniles at the time of the wreck. Mr. Murphy and his wife, along with one of the juveniles, were transported to Saint Thomas DeKalb Hospital by DeKalb EMS. Mrs. Murphy suffered from a broken arm, while Mr. Murphy and the juvenile had minor injuries.

No charges are expected in the case.
