Three Injured in Head-On Crash
Crash

Three people were injured last week after being involved in a head-on crash on Short Mountain Highway.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, on Friday, February 16, at 9:30 a.m., E-911 dispatchers were notified about a two-vehicle crash at State Route 146 (Short Mountain Highway) near Big Hickory Court. THP, deputies with the DeKalb Sheriff’s Department, DeKalb EMS, and the DeKalb Fire Department responded to the scene.

Authorities say that a 2013 Ford Fusion driven by 20-year-old Brayla Mayfield was traveling north on SR 146 while a 2019 Dodge Caravan driven by 22-year-old John-Paul Odell was traveling south. Officials say that the Odell vehicle entered into the northbound lane and Mayfield swerved into the southbound lane in order to avoid the crash. Odell then swerved back into the southbound lane and both vehicles collided near the center of the roadway.

Both Odell and Mayfield were injured, along with a passenger in the Mayfield vehicle, 19-year-old Mackenzie Davidson. All were treated by DeKalb EMS.

THP officials say that charges against Odell are pending an investigation. Everyone was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
