A Smithville man was injured last week after being involved in a devastating crash on Four Seasons Road. The crash occurred on a rain slick roadway, resulting in the whole side of one vehicle being ripped away.

According to Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Chris Delong, on Friday, May 28, at around 1:20 PM, 36-year-old Earl Asberry Jr. of Smithville was traveling eastbound on Four Seasons Road in a 1997 Ford F150 pulling a trailer. At the same time, 33-year-old Carmello Perez of Smithville was traveling west in a 2009 Ford Escape.

Authorities say that Asberry’s vehicle failed to maintain his lane of travel while negotiating a curve, and the trailer struck Perez’s vehicle on its left side, causing disabling damage.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department, DeKalb Fire Department, DeKalb EMS, and THP responded to the scene. Initially an extrication unit was dispatched to the scene, as Perez was reported trapped in his vehicle, but the man was able to exit the crash before units arrived.

Perez was transported to DeKalb Hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

Trooper Delong reported that both men were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash. Charges are pending in the case.
