Members of local churches affiliated with the Salem Baptist Association gathered first thing last Wednesday morning to travel to neighboring Putnam County to help with relief efforts after the devastating tornado. However, the team was turned away after arriving in Cookeville, as officials were not ready or completely organized to accept help. Recovery efforts were still under way. Salem Baptist Disaster Relief Director Aaron Young told the Review, this will take weeks to months of continued efforts. Many from DeKalb County volunteered in neighboring Putnam County, as well as, Wilson and Davidson County last week.
