Two people were arrested on Monday, September 13, after yet another high speed chase in the county. The chase led to a crash as the vehicle attempted to flee into Cannon County.
According to State Trooper Bobby Johnson of the Tennessee Highway Patrol at 11:11 p.m. he was running stationary radar on Highway 70 when he clocked a 1997 Ford Mustang traveling westbound at 84 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone.
Upon initiating lights and sirens the Mustang continued westbound at a high rate of speed, then turned onto Woodbury Highway in a reckless manner, striking the curb and causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The vehicle then struck both the east and west side guardrail.
The Mustang was badly damaged and smoking profusely as it continued south on Woodbury Highway. About a mile before the Cannon County line, the driver ran off the left side of the roadway and overturned coming to rest on its top. Both the driver, 18-year-old Kenneth Mooneyham of Smithville, and the passenger, 31-year-old Heather McClure of Hendersonville, were uninjured and taken into custody.
Mooneyham was charged with evading arrest, reckless endangerment, driving on suspended, reckless driving, and speeding.
McClure was taken in custody for active warrants out of Davidson County.
The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department assisted in the pursuit.
