Two people have picked up a petition to run for the open seat of Sixth-District DeKalb County Board of Education currently occupied by Doug Stephens. Stephens has announced he will not seek another term.
Billy Shawn Washer and Jason L. Miller is the latest person to have picked up a petition to run for the seat in the August 6 DeKalb County General Election. The winner of the race on August 6 will take over from Stephens.
In addition to the sixth-district, the fifth-district seat on the school board will be filled in the August election. W.J. (Dub) Evins, III currently holds that position. The terms are for four years.
The qualifying deadline is April 2.
Seven members make up the Board of Education but they do not all run in the same year because their four year terms are staggered. The fifth and sixth district positions are up for election this year. The other five were filled in 2018 and will be on the ballot again in 2022.
