FCE Meetings
The FCE will be meeting the 2nd Tuesday of each month. The meeting will be held at 10am at the DeKalb County Complex in the Motlow Conference room. Everyone is invited to attend.
DeKalb County Libraries Fine Forgiveness
Fine Forgiveness- New Year, New You at the DeKalb County Libraries: Have you been away from the libraries due to overdue fines? We are inviting you to come back to the Justin Potter and the Alexandria Libraries. From January 2nd to January 31, the libraries are offering fine forgiveness for eligible library materials, excluding damaged or lost books. Valentine Pageants
Applications are now available for annual Valentine Pageants, hosted by the Smithville Review. The pageants are open to DeKalb County ages birth to 18 years of age and still in school. The event is scheduled for Saturday, February 10, 2024 at the DeKalb County Complex auditorium. Applications are available at the Smithville Review office, located at 106 South First Street, and on Facebook.
Harlem Wizards Coming to Smithville
The Harlem Wizards, the most interactive, fun, community basketball event in the world is coming to Smithville. The world-famous Harlem Wizards will visit DeKalb Middle School on Thursday, February 29 at 6 p.m. for an evening of great fun and fundraising. Doors will open at 5 p.m. The Wizards will play a game against a team of DeKalb County School teachers, principals, SRO’s and community leaders. The event is a fundraiser for DeKalb Middle School. Only 850 tickets will be available and all sales will be online at www.harlemwizards.com or https://pretix.eu/harlemwizards/smithvilletn02-29-24-07-00pm/. DMS will get 52% of ticket proceeds. Souvenirs and concessions will also be available for sale on game night.
Blood Assurance to host two January blood drives
Blood Assurance will have January drive in Smithville.

Blood Assurance is the SOLE blood provider for our local hospitals. One donation can save three lives!
The following blood drive will be Wednesday, January 17 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Family Medical Center at 302 North Congress Boulevard on the mobile Bloodmobile. All donors will receive a fleece blanket for National Blood Donor Month while supplies last.

Veterans Service Officer Ready to Assist
Are you a veteran in need of assistance? DeKalb County has a Veteran's Service Officer ready to help you, not only with filing claims, but for conversations about your service.
Retired military service officer Bill Rutherford is located on the first floor of the DeKalb County Courthouse and is ready to offer assistance. He is available for in-office visits each Tuesday and Thursday or can be reached by telephone at any time at 615-560-3610. DeKalb County appreciates the service of all veterans and is proud to provide this service.

DeKalb County School Calendar for 2023-24
The school calendar is set for the 2023-24 year
Schools will also have a spring break March 25-29, closed for Labor Day September 4, Dr. Martin Luther King Day January 15, President’s Day February 19, and Monday, April 1. The last day of school will be May 21, 2024. May 20 will be an abbreviated day.
Report cards will be issued at all schools on January 9, March 13, and May 21.
Parent teacher conferences will be held at DCHS from 3-6 p.m. on March 19 and at all the other schools, DWS, NES, SES, and DMS from 3-6 p.m. on October 12 and March 21.
