Margo Jacobs
Ms. Senior Tennessee America

What a wonderful 17th Dot’s Annual Storytelling Day held at the DeKalb County Complex on May 7, 2022. Our guest speaker and storyteller was, Mrs. Margo Jacobs, Dickson, TN, the current MS. Sr. Tennessee America who will be representing our state in Hershey, PA in the fall. Margo’s new book, The Face in the Clouds, was on display and is for sale on Amazon. It is the story of the adoption of her daughter and a very touching story. You may find a copy in the Justin Library in Smithville. Margo shared a copy with our library for everyone to enjoy as well as telling a very wonderful story about her late Mother and Dad who had had ties to DeKalb County.

We dedicated this year’s storytelling day in memory of the late, Brownie Tittsworth, who was featured on the poster. Brownie was one of our favorite storytellers and came each year to celebrate the folk tales of our area. His daughter, Vivian Johnson, and wife, Lillian, were in attendance. Vivian shared memories of her Dad and other interesting tidbits about growing up in Smithville. We want to thank other tellers who came and helped make this year’s event successful: Jerry Parker, Murfreesboro, Roy Haney, Liberty, TN., Vivian Johnson, Bill Conger, and Co-hosts, Susan Hinton and Helga Thompson. You may view the storytelling on DTC-TV. The dates for airing are: Friday, May 13, 1 p.m., Saturday, May 14, 7 p.m., Monday, May 16 1 p.m., and Tuesday, May 17 at 7 p.m. We thank Nick Nokes for sending someone to film this year’s storytelling. Our sponsors are Smithville Study Club and Family consumer Education, (FCE) Smithville Club. We want to thank Food Lion for donating beautiful hanging baskets which were used to decorate and given out as door prizes.

Shout out to Ms. Pam Stockett who attended last year and brought a group of fifteen this year from Nashville. Again, we love our storytellers and listeners and was able to raise $1.000.00 to be donated to DeKalb Imagination Library fund. Thanks again! Susan Hinton, Co-Founder. “Everyone has a story to tell!” Hope to see you next year.
