A woman was busted for drunk driving when she wrecked her car as she was going to the store to pick up beer and cigarettes.

The alleged drunk driver, Laurie Ervin, 58, is charged with driving under the influence. Her charges come after she ran over a stop sign and ran through somebody’s yard on Cookeville Highway. The suspect vehicle left the scene and was found in a driveway. When confronted by lawmen, she admitted she had been driving at the time of the wreck, admitting she had taken to the road to get alcohol and cigarettes. When asked for her license, she reportedly handed the officer her debit card by mistake. A further investigation revealed she had been using her medical prescriptions while she was drinking. She was unsteady on her feet and had blood shot eyes. She was unable to perform a sobriety test and was arrested for DUI.

Austin Tyler England, and Mason Owen Zechary, both 18, were arrested for burglary, theft and joyriding. Zechary is additionally charged with possession of drugs.

The teens entered a 2008 Chevy Malibu with the intent to commit a theft. During the break-in they stole a wallet, cellphone and some identification papers. The teens also took a Kabota ATV and joyrode through a nursery, leaving it at a different location after they were through with it. A third suspect, Laradon Rain Wiggins, 20, was also arrested for joyriding along with his teenage friends.

Zechary was hit with the drug charge after he handed a sheriff’s detective some marijuana he had on his person when he was arrested on the theft charge.

Ethan Clay Scothell, 28, was arrested for driving on a revoked license. He was pulled over on Chapman Hollow Road and it was found he did not have a license because it had been revoked due to an earlier DUI.

Jose Benjamin Soto, Jr., 31, was arrested for assault and public intoxication. A deputy responded to a fight call and found Soto to be under the influence when he arrived. Witnesses said Soto hit a man inside a place of business and then charged the man again in the parking lot, knocking him into a parked car, causing damage to the car’s hood. He was restrained by a witness until lawmen arrived.

Donald Richard Atnip, Jr., was arrested for smuggling contraband into the county jail. Atnip had a pill container on his person containing suboxone. Surveillance footage revealed he had the container hidden in his rectum.
