



The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department made a couple of arrests for assaults last week, one which resulted in gunfire at a victim. Another arrest was made for a creative criminal who tried to beat the system.
Sheriff Patrick Ray told the Smithville Review that 40-year-old Jermaica Cheromy League of Parkway Drive, Smithville, was arrested on February 1, for aggravated assault. He is under a $5,000 bond and he is due in court on February 17.
Sheriff Ray said that on January 29, a deputy received a public service call, and when he made contact with the caller, the woman put her daughter on the phone who stated that she had been shot at around 2:30 p.m. by League.
When the deputy arrived the woman stated that she had left her residence and made contact with League at the intersection of Jefferson Road and Keltonburg Road. There, League allegedly got out of his vehicle and began yelling at her. The woman then stated that she then drove off.
League then allegedly followed the woman to the intersection of Old Keltonburg Road and Old Bildad Road, where he got out of his vehicle displaying a black gun and fired four shots toward her. The woman said that she sped away from the scene.
The deputy located two 9mm shell casings at the intersection at Old Keltonburg Road and Old Bildad Road. League was placed into custody.
A creative criminals was arrested after he was caught trying to falsify a drug test. Authorities say that 29-year-old Chad Stephen Taylor of Cleveland Way, Smithville, was charged with the crime. He is under a $2,500 bond and he has a court date set for February 17.
Sheriff Ray said that on January 27, while working in the courtroom, a probation officer asked a deputy to assist in a drug screen for Taylor. While visually observing Taylor for any substances or devices that could alter his drug screen, the deputy observed Taylor with an artificial penis with a urine-like substance. It appeared as though Taylor was trying to falsify his drug screen with someone else’s urine.
He was arrested on the charge.
On February 4, 23-year-old Robert Wayne Porter Jr. of Midway Road, Smithville, was charged with aggravated assault. He is under a $5,000 bond and he is set to appear in court on February 17.
According to Sheriff Ray, a deputy responded to Midway Road for a call about a domestic dispute. The deputy made contact with Porter and a female who had been in a verbal altercation. The woman claimed that Porter had shoved her into a wall and later grabbed a large stick and swung it towards her.
Porter was placed under arrest.
