Women pop pills in front of deputy

It was a pill-popping festival this past week when two women tried to swallow the evidence after their vehicle was pulled over.

Ashely Nicole Owen, 35, and Jessica Renee Owen, 41, are both charged with tampering with evidence. James Lynn Owen, 44, the driver of the vehicle in which they were riding, has been hit with drunk driving charges.

“He had a rapid, stuttered speech and constricted pupils,” the deputy wrote in his report, noting he was also unsteady on his feet and very fidgety.

While the drunk driver was being tended to, the arresting officer noticed both girls putting something in their mouths. Ashley Owen was able to swallow whatever she popped into her mouth while Jessica Owen didn’t get to swallow her pill.

According to Sheriff Patrick Ray, it is suspected the women were trying to destroy evidence of criminal possession so it couldn’t be used against them in court. The officer reported finding other pills in the car, noting there were enough narcotics located that he believes they had planned to sell some of the pills for profit. No one in the car had a prescription of the oxycodone that was found.
