Crews were busy fixing the Jamboree stage downtown Friday morning after a microburst from a severe thunderstorm ripped the superstructure from its foundation.
Packing gusts of 70 miles per hour, the intense storm struck from the south about 4 p.m. Thursday and made short work of the Jamboree overhead covering, lifting it like a parachute during the height of the storm. The incident was caught by cellphone cameras, glimpsing the collapse through torrents of rain and hail from the microburst.
Jamboree officials were assessing the scope of the damage Friday but noted it will not effect the event. The Jamboree stage is generally assembled weeks before the two-day festival happens.
