It's nice to know my column was missed last week with all the phone calls. Just a technical glitch!
An addition to the get-well list is Lucille VanWinkle of Spencer, who is the mother of our local Betty Davis (Avon agent).
Received a Christmas card from Amanda and Caleb Earnest last week that they were headed to Uganda. They are missionaries.
Some may remember Amanda, who was the daughter of Rev. Steve Smith, a former Methodist minister here. Amanda was also a drum major in the DCHS high school band here.
Blue sunny skies assisted in making the Christmas parade Saturday fantastic. To the best of my memory, this was the best and longest parade. Thrown candy from the participants was plentiful.
Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving celebrated in your own way. Our Thanksgiving Day was non-traditional this year due to a family member being in the nursing home. Therefore the other family members made other plans. For the first time, I ate alone on mostly leftovers. But I made good use of my bonus time by thoroughly cleaning the children's room. The sisters who operate Sisters Treasures on Market Street shared their Thanksgiving plans.
Mary Rice and Julie Wright, owners, dined with their parents John and Kathy Wright, Charlie Riddle, the Rice family and Wright family at the home of Stacy and Ronnie Taylor. Lots of food and chatting made the day.
Lynda Hansard, one of my favorite mail carriers, and husband Richard dined withy Doyle and Phyllis Hansard for lunch on turkey day with nine people. That evening they gathered at the home of Hoss and Terry Noska in Franklin with 30 other family and friends for dinner.
Another way of celebrating found Jack Loeb and Betty Turner Loeb at Falls Creek Inn State Park. They had a bountiful breakfast the next morning and found time to sketch some of the natural beauty up there. Then Betty entertained her family later that weekend. Also, did you see Betty's pic on last week's issue as being selected to paint an ornament to hang on the Governor's Mansion tree? Depicting DeKalb County, she painted a snowman for the Fiddlers Jamboree and then Center Hill Lake and the Courthouse on the other side. Congratulation, Betty.
Get-well wishes to Laird Barnard, Eddie Sutton and Brenda Tramel at NHC and to Tommy Reynolds in Chattanooga, recuperating nicely following an auto accident.
Birthday wishes, the first part of December, to Jerry Lee Cantrell, McAllen Judkins, Rachel Hendrixson Becky Davis, Oleta Stanton, David Hill, Seth Brown, Missy Clendenen, Angela Harvey, Neal Iverlett, Tara Tolbert, Tony Thomas, Leslie Hendrixson, Eli Humphrey and Pat Paris.
Belated birthday wishes to Tara Turner, receptionist at Center Hill Realty.
Elizabeth Chapel’s Living Christmas Tree program will be Dec. 5, 8 and 9. This is a time to remember our good hymns and carols at this time of year.
So between shopping, sending cards and attending some of these festivities, we should be busy. But remember the real reason for Christmas. Amen.
