Soggy but successful

A little rain did not affect the turnout at the annual Back to School Celebration Monday evening. Hundreds of DeKalb County students and parents visited the square downtown to pick up free school supplies for the upcoming school year.

The courthouse square was the place to go for free school supplies Monday and, albeit a little damp, everything went off without a hitch.

The Annual First Day of School Education Celebration, held on registration day in DeKalb County, found hundreds of people gathered at the court square for school supplies.

There was information booths, local officials and organizations handing out free school supplies, refreshments, and various activities for students. The event provided an opportunity for teachers and parents to come together to build a foundation for new and positive relationships.

"There are many volunteers, churches, and organizations that come together to make this event possible for our children so they are able to start school with new supplies and a great positive attitude," said Supervisor of Instruction for Pre-Kindergarten to sixth grade Michelle Burklow.
