The Banks Cumberland Presbyterian Church participated in the Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Ministry. This ministry is a division of the Samaritan’s Purse Foundation based out of Boone, North Carolina. The ministry’s mission is to share the good news of Jesus Christ with children across the world. The "Shoebox Ministry", as it has come to be known, is open to anyone in the church’s congregation that wishes to participate. This year, the church packed and shipped a total of 56 shoeboxes that will be distributed to the children. Each shoebox is filled with school supplies, hygiene products, clothing, toys, and other items that the benefiting child can use upon receiving.
After gathering the items and packing the shoeboxes, Brother Greg Whaley, the church pastor, prayed for the Lord to bless the boxes that each recipient might receive the box and come to know Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior. As noted on the Samaritan’s Purse website, "A small shoebox can teach a child about the love of God, lead him or her to faith in Christ, inspire pastors, and plant new churches. What goes into the box is fun, but what comes out is eternal. Be a part of changing lives through the power of a simple gift."
