This story is supposed to be true. Back in the days when horses pulled fire engines, there was a fire and the fire department was called. The horses pulled the fire wagon to the fire as quickly as they could.
When the crew got there, one of the horses was missing its whole foot. On the way back to the firehouse, the crew found the entire foot caught in the tracks at a railroad crossing. Apparently the horse was so fired up that it never knew that its foot was missing.
That just goes to show you that with all the noise and excitement of the fire, the emotions carried over to the horses also.
This next story is about a time when a good crop year determined how well financially a person would do. In a nearby community there was a young man who had a good crop year. He had abundance of all the year’s crops to feed his family and with some leftover to sell. After he sold his crops, he decided to buy some new clothes and dress up to surprise his Aunt Martha.
His aunt was always skeptical of his abilities to provide for a family. On his way to show-off his new wealth, he came by a creek. He decided to take a bath and change into his new clothes. While he was taking a bath, he decided to let his old worn out clothes float downstream.
About the same time, his horses decided to get a drink of water from the middle of the creek. The wagon ended up getting flooded and his new clothes floated out over the top. He watched in disbelief.
Finally he got the wagon out of the creek but didn’t have any clothes. He decided that he would go surprise his Aunt Martha anyway.
Another story that comes to my mind is about a man who called the doctor’s office and said that he had a problem. His wife had fallen asleep with her mouth open and a mouse ended up in her throat. The doctor’s staff told him just to wave some cheese in front of her mouth and the mouse would come out. The man said he would do that as soon as he got the cat out first.
