This is another mostly true story. There was a family that seems to be a little poorer than most everybody else in the community. Sometimes they would only have the staple of potatoes and beans to eat.
The family only had enough spoons and forks for each one of the parents and kids. If they had company, they could not all eat at one time. Somebody had to wait for the family to finish and then wash dishes before they could eat.
Since there was no TV to watch, the mama, Aunt Ida and the daddy, Uncle Jonas, would get drunk most every Saturday night, and they would get into a fight. They never hit each other, but they would curse each other loud enough for neighbors to hear them from their front porches.
The old folks would say that it was awful for those young kids to hear all those curse words. I always thought the kids probably heard cursing elsewhere anyway. This was a weekly Saturday night show. This event took place 75 years ago.
Everybody knew how it would take place. They would listen for entertainment. Hard times were a part of everyday life back then.
