Former students, their spouses, parents, children, and any other interested persons attended the Blue Springs School 11th Annual Reunion, which was held on Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Blue Springs Community Center.

This location couldn’t be better since the Blue Springs Community Center today  stands in the former site of the Blue Springs School, which began in 1929 and closed 1972. Acting as hosts and hostesses for this year’s event were Ms. Cathy McKeown, Mrs. Fay Bratcher, Mrs. Peggy Phillips Hendrixson, Mrs. Patsy Phillips Judkins, Ms. Peggy Couch, Mr. James Certain and Mr. Reed Miller. Reed also served as master of the ceremony.

A moment of silence and prayer was held in honor of the six former students and substitute teacher who passed away since last year’s reunion. They are as follows: Sue (Underwood) Cripps, Shirley (Caldwell) Dunn, George Herman, Jimmy Merriman, Ray Donald Webb, and former substitute teacher, Jo Ann (Webb) Sandlin. Others that were also honored in memory but did not attend the Blue Springs School included:  Edna Ashford, James Dunn, Dorthy Griffith, and Reba Stewart.

After Mr. Glen Hendrixson led the congregation in a memorial prayer and asked the blessing for the food, a delicious lunchtime meal consisting of finger foods, soups, and sandwiches, and dessert was served to the 31 guests present. Mrs. Joyce Hibdon Mullinax, a former teacher at the school, was unable to attend this year’s reunion.

Door prizes and gifts were drawn and distributed by this year’s hosts and hostesses and included several nice and useful gifts. Photographs and mementos were on display for everyone’s enjoyment and reminiscence.

The day ended with each one in attendance having an opportunity to have both an individual photo and a group photo of those present taken by photographer, Mr. James Edward Certain. A beautiful photo album will be put together by the photographer for anyone interested in purchasing one. Those interested should contact Mr. James Edward Certain by calling (931) 273-2327 or email him at jcertain@blomand.net.

All in attendance for the event enjoyed the fun-filled day and are planning the 12th Annual Blue Springs School Reunion for next year which will be held on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018.  Please mark your calendars, contact your former schoolmates and their families, and make plans to attend this very special day.
