Former students, their spouses, parents, children, and any other interested persons attended the Blue Springs School 12th Annual Reunion, which was held on Saturday, October 26th, at the Blue Springs Community Center – which stands today in the former site of the Blue Springs School.  The school began in 1929 and closed 1972.  Acting as hosts and hostesses for this year’s event were Ms. Cathy McKeown, Mrs. Fay Bratcher, Mrs. Peggy Phillips Hendrixson, Ms. Peggy Couch, Mr. James Certain and Mr. Reed Miller.  Reed also served as master of the ceremony.

All in attendance observed a moment of silence and a prayer in remembrance of the six former students, who had passed away since last year’s reunion, which are as follows:  Clara May (Hale) Wilkey, Jerry Hibdon, Lois (Cantrell) Gay, Staley Washer, Willie Matthews, and Bobby Cripps.

This year’s reunion also welcomed three first-time attendees:  Fred and Barbara Cripps and Don Hutchins.

After Mr. J.E. Sandlin asked the blessing for the food, a delicious lunchtime meal consisting of finger foods, soups, and sandwiches, and dessert to the 27 guests present.  Mrs. Joyce Hibdon Mullinax, the only former living teacher at the school, was unable to attend this year’s reunion.

The drawing of the door prizes and gifts were drawn and distributed by this year’s hosts and hostesses and included several nice and useful gifts.  Photographs and mementos were on display for everyone’s enjoyment and reminiscence.

The day ended with a closing prayer by Fred Cripps and each person in attendance given an opportunity to have both an individual photo and a group photo of those present taken by photographer, Mr. James Edward Certain.  A beautiful photo album will be put together by the photographer for anyone interested in purchasing one; those interested should contact Mr. James Edward Certain by calling (931) 273-2327 or emailing him at jcertain@blomand.net.

All in attendance for the event enjoyed the fun-filled day and are planning the 14th Annual Blue Springs School Reunion for next year, which will be held on Saturday, October 31st, 2020.  Please mark your calendars, contact your former schoolmates and their families, and make plans to attend this very special day.
