The county commission honored three Eagle Scouts this past week during their regular session, reading aloud resolutions praising the three youths for their hard work.
The scouts, all with Troop 347, included Jonathan Birmingham, Friedrich J.M. Dodge and John William Stephens.
Birmingham earned his Eagle Scout by installing a children’s playground at Smithville Church of God while Dodge installed a new sign at Smithville Rotary Park. Stephens constructed and installed benches at the county complex.
The resolutions say, in part, “Whereas, it is fitting that the DeKalb County Commission and the DeKalb County Mayor should announce their respect and honor in the young people of our community who so capably fulfill their requirements and duties to reach lofty goals and levels of achievement.”
County Mayor Tim Stribling read the resolutions after they were moved to the top of the agenda so the students could go to Crossville to support the Lady Tiger basketball team who would go on to upset the defending state champion Upperman Lady Bees in the regional tournament.
The county court also thanked others who supported the three Eagle Scouts in their endeavors.
“Whereas, the DeKalb County Commission and County Mayor wish to thank Eagle Scouts Jonathan Birmingham, John William Stephens, and Friedrich J.M. Dodge, their families, fellow Boy Scouts, and volunteers who helped them complete their projects,” the proclamations read.
The youths were all given copies of the resolutions to keep. The resolutions themselves were placed in the county’s official records.
