Total Eclipse Prayer Service
Prosperity Baptist Church will be hosting a Total Eclipse Prayer Service on Aug. 21 beginning at 1 p.m. There will be a time of singing and prayer then watching the eclipse together. Farm Bureau Meeting
The annual meeting of the DeKalb County Farm Bureau will be held August 19 at 6 p.m. at the Smithville Church of Christ Annex. During the business meeting, we will announce the directors for the upcoming year and company service reports will be given. Kelsey Rose, Member Benefit of Tennessee Farm Bureau Federation, will be the guest speaker. All Farm Bureau members are invited. A light meal will be served following the business meeting. Solar Eclipse Block Party
You are invited to get a Moon’s Eye View from downtown Smithville of the Solar Eclipse on August 21, 2017 at Evins Park Open Air Stage. There will be children’s Solar Eclipse activates led by Helen Sefsick from 10 a.m. until noon at Justin Potter Library. At 12:30 free Solar Eclipse glasses will be handed out at Evins Park – first come first served. The City of Smithville will be providing Moon Pies with DeKalb County Government and the library providing watr.
Stand AgainstAddiction Day
H.A.V.E. (Helping Addiction Vanish Everyone) will be hosting a Day against Addiction Day on Aug. 26 in DeKalb County. The day will be honored by a community picnic with representatives from local support groups, churches, community resources, medical and rehabilitation facilities. The event is designed to break the silence of addiction in our community and build a bridge between those affected and those that can help. Vanatta Cemetery Meeting

DCHS Class Reunion 1967
The DCHS class of 1967 will be having its 50-Year Reunion at 6 p.m. on Saturday, August 19, at the New Life Connection Center (old Pamida building) located at 750 South Congress Boulevard, beside the County Complex. The Class of 1967 began as freshman in 1964 in the new consolidated Liberty and Smithville high schools, and was the first class that graduated after attending all four years at the current DeKalb County High School. Tramel Reunion
The annual Tramel reunion will be Saturday, August 19, at noon in the community room in the City Hall Building on the east side of the square in Smithville. This is where the Senior Citizens previously met. Everyone is encouraged to attend and bring pictures, recipes, genealogical information and anything else interesting to share. DeKalb County Canning College Course
The course is $25, which covers food and supplies. Same course is offered during day and night to accommodate participants’ schedules. Payment is due at least three days prior to class. The class will be held at the UT Extension Office, 722 South Congress Boulevard, Smithville. A minimum of four students are needed to make each class. Classes will be held in the kitchen at DeKalb County Complex.
Westinghouse Family Reunion
A reunion, including a time of reminiscing and fellowship, is planned for all former Smithville Westinghouse employees and their families on Sept. 2, 2017 from 11-2 at the Smithville church of God Annex Building located at 801 West Broad Street in Smithville. Senior Center Trip

DeKalb Animal Coalition
The DeKalb Animal Coalition meets monthly on the first Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the former Senior Citizens room on the second floor of city hall. Everyone is welcome to learn about plans for a facility which will house and treat lost or stray animals to be returned to their owner or available for adoption.
Smithville Head Start Center
L.B.J. & C. Head Start is currently accepting applications to provide free comprehensive child development services to children 3-5 years of age from low-income families in a full-day program.
