2018 Student-Led New York Trip
Students in 7-12 grades and their parents are urged to meet on Tuesday, Sept. 5 at 6 p.m. for an informative meeting at Smithville Elementary School. This informative meeting will share our proposed itinerary for our 2018 student-led trip to New York. This trip offers an exciting itinerary. We will Tour the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, go inside the Empire State Building, visit 9/11 memorial site, shop at Times Square, attend the Broadway Play “Lion King” and top it off by watching the Yankees play some baseball. Awana Club’s Registration Night and Block Party Aug. 30
There will be an Awana’s Club registration night and block party Wednesday, Aug. 30, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend. Registration is only for children 2-years old through fifth grade. Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Revival
The Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in the Pea Ridge community will be having a revival nightly at 7 p.m. starting Aug. 27 to Sept. 2. Brothers Nick Pelham and Burl Rice will be doing the preaching.


Westinghouse Family Reunion
A reunion, including a time of reminiscing and fellowship, is planned for all former Smithville Westinghouse employees and their families on Sept. 2, 2017 from 11-2 at the Smithville church of God Annex Building located at 801 West Broad Street in Smithville. Thweatt Reunion
The Thweatt reunion will be held Sept. 3 at the Keltonburg Community Center. Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish and spend the day. Food will be served at 12:30 p.m.

Livingston Exchange Club Tour
The Exchange Club of Livingston will be hosting a Historical Walking Tour of Livingston, TN on Sunday, Sept. 24, from 2-4 p.m. on the Square. The third-annual Handbags for Hope is to benefit Genesis House, Inc. of the Upper Cumberland. All proceeds to benefit domestic violence prevention and awareness in the Upper Cumberland. DeKalb Animal Coalition
The DeKalb Animal Coalition meets monthly on the first Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the former Senior Citizens room on the second floor of city hall. Everyone is welcome to learn about plans for a facility which will house and treat lost or stray animals to be returned to their owner or available for adoption.

Smithville Head Start Center
L.B.J. & C. Head Start is currently accepting applications to provide free comprehensive child development services to children 3-5 years of age from low-income families in a full-day program. Services are also offered to meet the special needs of children with disabilities. L.B.J. & C. Head Start helps all children succeed. L.B.J. & C. DeKalb County Canning College Course
The course is $25, which covers food and supplies. Same course is offered during day and night to accommodate participants’ schedules. Payment is due at least three days prior to class. The class will be held at the UT Extension Office, 722 South Congress Boulevard, Smithville. A minimum of four students are needed to make each class. Classes will be held in the kitchen at DeKalb County Complex.
