The Crochet Project
To know wisdom and instruction, to perceive the words of understanding, to receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, judgment, and equity; to give prudence to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion - a wise man will hear and increase learning, and a man of understanding will attain wise counsel, to understand a proverb and an enigma, the words of the wise and their riddles. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction. – Proverbs 1:2-7
My mother was a true crochet artist. She could look at something and make it even better without a pattern or any instruction. She knew her craft. She tried to teach me, but I never could make any headway. I would rather read back then.
When I gave up smoking, I had to keep my hands busy. With the help of YouTube, I picked up the art of crochet and have been doing it ever since. So, when I was asked to make something recently, I couldn’t find a pattern anywhere.
Since I knew the basics of what I wanted to accomplish, I proceeded to make the pattern as I went. … I just made a mess. I had to take everything apart and begin again numerous times. I was so aggravated. Anyone knows who deals in any kind of needlework, yarn work or crafts, things can go very bad. I worked for days on this project, and I almost gave up completely, which is unusual for me because I just have to find a way to make it work.
I finally found the pattern. I had been using the wrong yarn and the wrong hook size which made a huge difference. Once I had the right materials, it took me three hours to complete. I was instantly reminded how we try to live life on our own understanding and our own interpretation of God’s word, often making our life more confused and complex than He ever intended for us.
Hear, my children, the instruction of a father, and give attention to know understanding; for I give you good doctrine: do not forsake my law. – Proverbs 4:1-3
Let’s face it; we are stubborn in our ways and think we know all the answers to life’s questions. But we don’t. The only peace to be found in this earth comes from God and His instruction for our life. How many times have you gone your own way and made a mess of your life? I’ve done it many times for which I’m not proud. But if we just take the time to read His instructions; to seek His face and pray for guidance, we can know and follow a much better path for our life and not have to unravel the mess we made from our own instructions
