Springtime brings the Relay for Life fund raisers. Several bake sales occurred last weekend. Thank you to our community for supporting each team’s efforts to raise money for such a worthy cause.
Matilda Earl of Dry Creek visited Tom and Georgie Cripps of Alexandria this week.
Matilda is teaching Tom some banjo playing skills.
The big topic around the house this week has been about a green leafy plant that grows in the woods around the Dry Creek Valley called Crows Foot. Woodrow Frazier (late husband of your writer) once talked me into picking a mess of Crows Foot. I filled my apron full of the weed-like plant and cooked a pot full. The taste wasn’t pleasant, and I never recall Woodrow requesting Crows Foot again. The Crows Foot plant is an annual that pops up in the woods during the spring. Its name is a reference to the shape of the leaf, however one would really have to use their imagination to pull this leafs structure to resembling a crow’s foot. We may have a Smithville Review reader that has actually eaten Crows Foot. It would be interesting to hear if they ever ate it more than once in their life.
Happy birthday wishes go out to two of my great-grant children, Elizabeth Miller who is turning fifteen and Owen Wyatt Cripps who is turning two, both have birthday on April 12. We read disturbing news in our local paper and on the news channels which made me think of this week’s scripture.
