DeKalb Animal Coalition Happenings
DAC sign

The blue prints for the DAC animal shelter are at the drafting office for updating including an additional 10 feet added to the back of the building for storage. There will be approximately 30 large pens for dogs and about 16 cages for cats. Mike Foster has met with an engineer who has donated his time to work with Mike detailing structural changes in the plans. A big thank you to Butch Agee, road supervisor for DeKalb County and his crew of hard workers who finished the grading of the area for the shelter! Updates will continue as progress is being made.

Don›t get too comfortable when you shop at the DAC  Benefit Store: there is a great rocker/ recliner chair that was donated Friday that tempts customers when they walk through the door to rest their tired feet. In the back room is a very nice oak entertainment center, computer tables, tools, lamps, and more shoes than your average shoe store, many of which are brand new. There are also sturdy microwave cabinets for $30.00.  Looking for bargains? All items in the store (except furniture and already marked down items) are half price. The store is open on Friday from 10 to 5 and Saturday from 10 to 2. Volunteers are needed to help in the store: please call Marsha at 615-597-6138 with the hours that you are available to work.

Speaking of bargains, how about some that are free? On May 24, there will be a free spay and neuter clinic for the residents of DeKalb County. New Leash on Life out of Lebanon has a spay/neuter van that will  meet you in the parking lot of Prichard’s Foods, 885 Brush Creek Road in Alexandria at 8AM, perform the surgery, then you can pick up your dog(s) or cat(s) in the afternoon: you must call 615-281-0664 to make an appointment. Know someone whose pet needs "fixing"? Let them know of this free service. Also, if you know someone who lives in Smith County, the Smith County Animal Clinic is having their "spay day" on Saturday, May 21st; call 615-735-7028 to make an appointment. Both clinics require demonstration of certain financial needs such as WIC, Disability, SSI, Medicaid, SS Benefits, Veterans benefit recipients, Families First,  public housing or unemployment. Help our communities  reduce the animal population and lessen the need for and burden of  finding a home for your litter of kittens or dogs. Thank  you!
