The DeKalb West School Junior Beta Club spread Christmas cheer at the 6th Annual Regifting event at the county complex.  Caroline Crook, Emily Young, Chase Young, Bryna Pelham, Bradley Pelham, Landon Roehner, Caitlin Shoemake, and McKenna Miller participated in the extension of the Patchwork UC ministry. The program gives children ages 4 to 12 an opportunity to shop for parents or caregivers at no cost.

Club co-sponsor Nadina Martel says the DWS Betas had different roles to play.

“They helped children ‘shop for items to give to their guardians, fill out Christmas cards, and wrapped the gifts for them,” Martel said. “They also helped with blessing bags made for people in the community.

“Jr. Beta was involved to fulfill the motto of “Lead by serving others”. Though they were earning service hours by volunteering for this event, it was obvious how much they enjoyed taking part and helping. They did a wonderful job interacting with the children and looking for ways to help those who put on the event.”

“I volunteered with DWS Jr. Beta the last three years to wrap gifts at the Re-gifting Event,” says Emily Young.

“I enjoy seeing the excitement of the kids shopping for their family members.”

“I really liked seeing the kids walking out happy with their gifts,” adds Chase Young.

I love seeing the happiness in kids when it’s close to Christmas, and they get to pick out gifts for the ones they love,” Caroline Crook.
