Do they still make NuGrape?

Cool breeze blowing at times while I'm outside.  Half the day has been cloudy, and I wasn't sure about any sunshine for us, but around eleven the rays of sunshine finally peeked through.  The day turned out nice and serene, and I was able to get a couple of projects done.

I talked with Gracie Bratcher and Mai Nell Melton last week. They were both doing ok.  They, of course, have their good days and bad days like the rest of us, but I always feel better after talking to them, because they are so upbeat about things.  Have you ever been around someone that would never laugh when told a funny story?  I'm thinking they have to be pretty miserable inside.  Probably most people have come across someone like that in their daily living of life.  I'm always laughing at myself at some of the silly things I do. Laughter, I believe, is good for your overall health.  Being stressed out is a bummer, isn't it?  No fun in that for anyone so just do all you can to correct a problem that pops up and then ask God to help solve it for you.  Let God do what He does best in taking care of our problems.

Ruth Brown and her family are all well.  I talked with Ruth on Monday.  On Monday evening Burley called and was tired from all the work he had done that day.  He is suffering from allergies like so many people this time of year.  Quite a lot of mowing going on after the rain has stopped.  We're to have on and off showers and maybe a few storms the next few days.  The month of April will soon be gone. April has been so windy, more like March than what is normal for April.  Climate change possibly the reason for the unusual weather we're having.  I mowed our yard yesterday and didn't take a break and I almost got too hot.  Temperatures were in the upper eighties, close to ninety degrees.  Will not be in such a hurry next time I mow.

I was wondering the other day about those "NuGrape" drinks that our dad, "Mr. Jake Warren" sold in his little country store years ago.  Do they still make them?  They were so cold and delicious when you pulled one out of that cold drink box.  Also, Dr Pepper seemed to taste better back then.  Seems like just about everything was better back then.  I had a good childhood with a loving family to support me.

So many funny moments that came to mind will make you laugh and realize you might have been poor, but you were happy.  I can remember my twin brother "Harold" picking up the saltshaker to salt mom's "Mrs. Hester Warren's" stewed potatoes and the top fell off and a pile of salt was on the potatoes.  Never found out who did that dastardly deed.  All I know is my brother always checked the saltshaker after that.  There were seven of us kids and we made our own fun.  We would play outside till mom would holler for us to come in for supper.  She always made us some delicious meals.  Cooking, canning and cleaning for us.  She could do it all.  As I look back, we didn't know how good we had it.  Those kinds of memories cannot be taken away.  In the years that have followed, God answered all my prayers about mom and dad, my siblings and our homeplace.  I just can't praise and worship God enough for how wonderful He is.

Mother's Day will be here on May 11th.  Count your blessings if you still have your mom.  I only wish I still had mine.  Mothers are priceless in a thousand ways.  Is there anything they can't do? Whatever it takes do her day up right with flowers, candy, cards and maybe money.  You've still got her now, but you might not have her next year.

Let's keep in prayer:  Dusty Johnson, Mary Melton, Diane Evans, Rose Watts, Walter and Faye Ferrell, Joe Gunter, the people of Israel and Ukraine, the leaders of our country, and the families of Jack Parsley and Michael Prater.

Have a great day...and Happy Mother's Day!
