The heavy rain which fell in the Dry Creek Valley Monday morning was welcomed by farmers and gardeners. We are always thankful for the rain.
Many large trucks carrying large equipment, used in making bridges, have been seen going down the valley to Highway 70. This tells us that the new bridge, which crosses the Dry Creek streams and the road to the left goes to Butternut School and to the right leads you to the Pea Ridge Community, may be near completion.
We have been informed that paving the new bridge will be next, and then it will be completed.
The Dry Creek Community is thankful for this nice bridge. It will be a great help for the many people who will be using it to get to work, visit Butternut, shopping or other needs.
A big “Thank You” to any and all who are responsible for the construction of the bridge.
It was good to hear from Bro. Bill and Joyce Robertson, of Game Ridge Road, this week. Glad to know that our friends are enjoying life and that includes our work and our food.
Sharing and caring have been a big part of our life. Others should be important to us as we journey through the years that God has given us. We send our love and best wishes to Bro. Bill and Joyce.
Nice to receive a call from a nice lady whom we had never known but just happened to subscribe to our county paper, the Smithville Review. Mary Henley White lives in Smyrna but has ties to DeKalb County. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. Lidge Neal, of Dowelltown. As a young girl, she rode Mr. Alf Parker’s bus to Nashville to work.
Since she read last week’s column, she was interested in “Kraut Making.” She called to find out the exact ingredients, etc. Mary, good luck with your kraut making. Be sure the sign, zodiac, is right.
She also told us that she knew Tom and Georgia Cripps, Dismal Road, Liberty.

Mary Joines remains about the same. Mary is recovering from a massive stroke. Her husband, Bobby Joines, looks after her. Remember the Joines in your prayers.
Special get-well wishes go to Mrs. Georgia Hawker. She is not well this week. Our prayers, love and best wishes are for her to get well soon.
Dry Creek Baptist has many activities planned for the month of October. On Oct. 15 there will be a 4-wheeler ride up Wilder Hollow, down Pea Ridge Hill to the head of Dry Creek. The church provides the food. There will be plenty to eat, fun and fellowship.
On Oct. 29 the church will have Mary Joines Fall Harvest Festival. We are honoring Mary who was in charge of this event for several years. There will be a hayride, a chili supper and trunk or treat after supper.
Everyone is welcome, Bro. Donald Owens, pastor.
