Dry Creek Flashes
Dry Creek Valley in full bloom

It is a exciting time in the Dry Creek valley as Spring brings a renewal to the earth. It doesn’t cost a penny to get a lasting enjoyment out of God’s creation.
As we gaze out the glass doors, we see newly mowed green grass with the bright orange dandelions, although just cut on Saturday, standing with their heads held high on Monday. Yes, we can see beauty in them, although we do not like so many hundreds maybe.
The pear trees are in full bloom, but not too many on our apple tree.
The irises are shooting up from their dormant stage, and so are the daylilies.
The clementis planted last year has completely covered its trellis. It is an early riser and will soon be in purple blooms.
The lilac bush is almost in bloom, and so it is: Spring follows winter.
Today, April 7, the sun is shining brightly. The clothes line will soon be full of fresh washed clothes. This is the normal at Dry Creek valley, which is happy to see spring arrive.
Recent visitors of Bobby and Mary Joines were Danehl Page, Willie Thomason, Judy Kimbrell, Kathy Hendrix, Jimmy Womack, Helen Burt, Vicki Corley, Bill and Christina Roehner, Bro. Donald Owens, Betty Mullican, Debbie Young, Paulette Robertson, Robbie and Alicia Maxwell, Tommy Anderson, Terry Cripps, Mike and Tammy Crook and Jordan, and Elaine Garrison.
The Joines family covets the prayers of friends as Bobby takes treatments at the Smithville Clinic.
Dry Creek Baptist Church gave a bridal tea for Alicia Maxwell in the fellowship hall Sunday afternoon. Alicia is married to Robbie Maxwell of Smithville, and they live in the Dry Creek valley.
They received many useful gifts. We welcome the Maxwells as a new family in the valley.
Mr. and Mrs. Dawson Parker of London, England have been visiting the United States due to the illness of Mrs. Parker’s mother at Wartrace. While here, the Parkers visited their son, Robert Parker, in Murfreesboro, and Dawson’s brother, Jerry and Brenda Parker, who also live in Murfreesboro.
The Parker’s have returned to their home in England.
They own and operate the big department store, Harrah's in London. We say hello to the Parkers. Our community sends special get well wishes, our prayers, and our love to Mrs. Parker’s mother.
Bro. Donald Owens received a special birthday gift from his cousin, Frances Frazier of Smithville, a hand-painted picture of the Dry Creek stream where Bro. Donald was baptized when he was a young boy.
You know frances Frazier is an outstanding artist who has painted many sections of her birthplace, the beautiful Dry Creek valley. Bro. Donald says “Thank You” to cousin Frances.
Basketball is about over. Ucon beat Kentucky in the men’s final game last night in dallas Stadium.
We saw two past Presidents in the audience, Bush and Clinton. In tournaments we  tend to think of legends of their time.
We remember maybe two from the 1936 team at DCHS, Josephine Bain Guard and Bill Hill, both strong and high spirited.
Michele Hendrix Kent, like her daddy Ricky Hendrix, is good in making those long three-pointers.
On Friday of last week the Tennessean had a nice write up about DeKalb legend Rosa Stokes.
She played four years for Cumberland University, scored more than 1000 points, and pulled down more than 1000 rebounds in four-year career. She was an All-District, All-Conference, and All-Midstate honoree at DCHS.
She went on to coach many girls high school teams. It is good to remember this legend, Rosa Stokes.
