October 9, 2014 was DTC Day to honor all 50 year members. We got up to a cloudy day with the forecast stormy for our area.

We so much wanted to attend as some nice lady called from DTC had called earlier, our guess is to remind this old lady of the date and time.

We got seated in the car and glanced upwards to a solid black cloud which appeared low in the sky surrounding DeKalb.

As we continued up Highway 70, a few raindrops began to fall. We reached the complex, a nice DTC gentleman escorted us to the first seat at the back of the room which was available.

Jimmy and Hilda Oakley greeted us with remarks about the stormy weather. It did slow down the invited guests until about 11 a.m., when we began to see late comers Jenelle Pugh and her escort James Hancock, Mai Nell Foutch, Darla Moore, Jo Dean Dutton, Herron and Ann Puckett, Carolyn Williams and Joel Dawes.

We had already seen and talked with our dear student, Willie Turner, of Dowelltown Elementary School. The ole quotation is suitable for Willie, to know him was to love him, as we do. Friends are wonderful to have.

At noon, DTC served a delicious meal with choice of pie.

Craig Gates CEO welcomed the members. Bro. Bill Robertson gave the invocation. DTC workers served the lunch. We knew a few of them, some we didn’t. Jimmy Mullinax’s daughter we knew.

DTC gave a nice food carrier to each member. Thank you that was a very nice gift which we appreciate very much.

Cousins Edward and Frances Frazier came and sat at the end of our table. It is always good to see and brag on some natives of Dry Creek valley who have contributed much as DeKalb Citizens.

Lucille Garrison talked with us. She also is a Dry Creek valley citizen. Her husband was with her. They now live in Alexandria. Good to see former neighbors, Jimmy Womack and Becky.

At a distance we saw another nice lady from Smithville, Violet Pack.

When leaving we saw one of the nicest ladies, Gloria Hale also Judy Sandlin. We got to chat just a few minutes, Gloria had one of the beautiful floral arrangements given as a door prize, and she was so gracious and wanted to give it to me. We said no, but she gave it to me. Would you believe it, it is still a beautiful floral live decoration. Judy Sandlin is the same as when we first met years ago through the Mosers. Hello to Dot Tittsworth, seen at DTC.

The last person we talked to was Tom Duggin. We asked him where he had been, his answer was hiding.

Besides being the versatile young man that he is, did you know that he can sing? We have often told him about his grandmother, the late Mary Lou Colvert Duggin and her beautiful alto voice. Maybe she is singing in that heavenly choir.

Despite the weather, the Customer Appreciation Luncheon was a great day, even Grace Close, 101 years old and her daughter, Judy Close were there. Thanks DTC.
