Looking out over the farm we see the snow and ice lingering on and remember the old tale of snow that lies around just waiting on another one. We do not wish for any more snow or ice this winter. The beautiful vision of our porch being graced with ferns and blooming flowers of spring is dancing around in my head.
It is finally March! The school children are celebrating Dr. Seuss Week. Theodor Seuss Geisel, commonly known by his pen name Dr. Seuss, was a writer, poet and cartoonist. He released a whopping forty-six books for children over the years. March 2 is always recognized as Read Across America Day, a celebration of Seuss’s life and works. Many dress up in his hat or dress up with a friend as Thing 1 and Thing 2. His many bizarre, colorful and zany tales are still cherished by young and old alike. Graduates often receive one of his books titled Oh, the Places You Will Go for a treasured gift. We wish Dr. Seuss a happy nrthday. We certainly enjoyed reading his books to many children over the years in our library classroom.
Friend and neighbor Nora Harvey visited last week several days. She brought her family with her one day and a delicious banana pudding another. We appreciate the watchful neighborly care of Nora.
Leadership DeKalb Class of 2015, along with their leader, Jen Sherwood toured DeKalb West, Middle and High Schools last week. Welcoming the group was Director of Schools, Mr. Mark Willoughby. Several of the district’s supervisors shared information with the group concerning their specific jobs. A delicious lunch was prepared by the Culinary Arts teacher Linda Paris, assisted by co-worker Mary Ann Carpenter. A good day was had by all.
Project Graduation’s fund raising efforts are underway. It was reported that Matt Boss stepped in as DJ at the Father-Daughter Dance, and a wonderful chocolate fountain was provided by Brooke Martin’s mother Susan.
Archery Classes have begun at DeKalb West School under the leadership of Ricky Hendrix. The equipment used in this program was purchased through a grant. Thank you to Tony Cross from our Wildlife Resource Agency for informing our district about this program.
