It was good to hear from Paul Robinson, who called to tell us how much he enjoyed the article on the two-teacher schools. Those teachers sure had a big job to accomplish. The task of having so many grades in one classroom wasn’t so easy.
This must be the "year of the butterfly." They have been nourishing themselves at my roses and dahlias. We have seen a variety here at my patio, including a Red Admiral, a Red Spotted Purple, numerous Eastern Tiger Swallow Tail, and the Emperors are here in clusters. They are sure beautiful to watch.
Lisa Cripps and I have been canning again this week. Clark and Kay Lance of Game Ridge shared their crop of tomatoes. We enjoyed spending our afternoons canning.
We have a good mess of peas shelled, and Ms. Fay Adkins gave us some okra, so we are pretty set with veggies for Sunday. Our family enjoys coming in from church to a table full of fresh vegetables with a meat. YUM!
Neighbor and friend, Jeanette France, stopped by mid-week for a visit. She came bringing fresh snow-white eggs. We spent the better part of an hour talking about old times picking berries on the creek. Jeanette’s mother, Martha, and Ms. Lona Frazier, my mother in law, would often take the younger ones berry picking. It is funny stories to think back on, but climbing those hills was not too much fun when we were younger.
Charlie and Brenda Tramel and children, Michele Kent and family visited Ricky and Kathy Hendrix last Saturday.
Jimmy Womack of Smithville has been seen on his farm this past week clearing off the hillsides. It has been hard to keep up the growth with our excessive rains. We enjoyed Jimmy stopping by for a visit.
Wow! Look what Dry Creek Baptist Church is planning for Labor Day weekend…special singing and food. Plan to attend this event on Sept. 6 at 5 p.m.
It was good to hear from my friends Tommy and Audrey Webb. We send them well wishes from the Dry Creek Community.
Congratulations to Collin and Sommer Cantrell on the birth of their son, Knox.
Boyd and Brenda Cantrell are the proud grandparents.
There have been so many people who have lost their dear loved ones these past few weeks. We send our sympathy to the Davis, Hayes, Cantrell, and Reynolds families.
May God’s peace surround them.
Living God’s way is like having a flashlight so that we can walk safely on a path that would otherwise be dark and dangerous.
