We are in the month of November. This is the month that we celebrate Thanksgiving. The pilgrims were so thankful for their first harvest of food in America that they prepared a festive meal for the occasion, which was called Thanksgiving.
We think of food, turkey and dressing with all the trimmings, along with many other delicious dishes of sweet potatoes, cranberries, etc.
We should be thankful for our food, but let us pause and count our many blessings.
We should be thankful for life in America, the home of the free and brave, our service men and women, who protect us daily and our police force in all areas of our county.
Other blessings to be thankful for are our churches, family, community, friends and neighbors, hospitals, doctors and nurses, God’s great creation, the postal service and much more.
November is a great month. Always be thankful for whatever you have.
We send special get-well wishes to our neighbor and friend, Pauline Frazier. She had surgery last Friday at a Murfreesboro hospital. She is doing well at the home of her daughter, Linda Bush, in Smithville. She will go see her doctor Wednesday. We pray for her to get a good report. Pauline is a regular person at the courthouse’s farmer’s market with her nice turnip greens and other fall vegetables. Remember Pauline in your prayers, and may God’s love and mercy sustain her during her illness.
Mary Joines is not feeling well this week. We hope she will be feeling better soon. She has been a shut-in at her home here in the Valley due to a stroke. Let’s remember her and cheer her up this week. A call, card, some food or a gift would help.
We might need help some day. We never know what the future will bring. God bless Bobby and Mary Joines.
We extend our sincere sympathy to Mr. Doyle Smith of Smithville in the loss of his dear wife, Melford. She was a lovely lady who had many talents. She was always by his side of her husband at the DeKalb Retired Teacher’s meetings until her health kept her home.
We all loved her and will miss her. May God’s love and mercy be with Doyle and their children in their time of sorrow.
Several friends enjoyed a brief vacation in the Smokies las week and attended the Ray Stevens concert.
Jimmy and Becky Womack, Robert and Sarah Walker, Roger and Kathy Hendrix and Kenny Edge enjoyed the trip in spite of cold weather and some snow.
We are thankful for the rain that fell today heavy at mid-morning turning to a fine mist, which was still falling after dark.
The senior adults from Dry Creek Baptist went to Fall Creek Falls State Park with Pastor Bro. Donald Owens to see the beautiful leaves, which we all agreed were the most colorful and beautiful that we had ever seen.
The food at the cafeteria was delicious and extra special with an old-fashioned apple cobbler.
Twenty-two people made the trip and enjoyed the falls.
Tom Snow had as his guest his mother, Mary Snow. Thanks to our bus drivers, Albert Tomilson and Bobby Robinson, and many thanks to our dear pastor, Bro. Donald Owens, who cares for the seniors at Dry Creek Baptist.
Dry Creek Baptist will be having its church-wide Thanksgiving supper Nov. 16.
Attend church Sunday. Everyone is welcome at Dry Creek Baptist Church, Bro. Donald Owens, pastor.
Dry Creek Baptist Church will be participating in the Samaritan Purse Christmas Program this year. The boxes are due Nov. 13.
