Gardeners happy to see the rain

Did anyone see the oversized moon last Saturday? I sat up, but it was cloudy and the moon was not visible. It was supposed to be a larger than usual moon.
Mrs. Michele Kent and Brandon of Lascasses visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ricky Hendrix, Saturday.
The Retired Teacher Association met May 10 at the DeKalb County West School in Liberty. It was good to see Doyle Smith, James and Geraldine Cantrell, Carolyn Mullinax, Edward and Gloria Hale, and Genrose Davis. We learned that Genrose was retiring this year. DeKalb West is going to Miss Genrose. She setup the DeKalb West School Library and has done an excellent job as full-time librarian.
We thank DeKalb County Bank and Trust of Smithville for sponsoring our lunch and for the nice favors.
We also appreciate DeKalb West School for a delicious meal. Thanks to the the eighth-grade students for their kind service.
Enjoying Mother’s Day dinner at the home of Louise Frazier were Lisa Cripps, Justin Cripps, Jordan and Nicole Cripps, David and Monica Reynolds and Levi, Jimmy and Judy Kimbrell, Roger and Kathy Hendrix and Michele Kent, Elizabeth and Olivia Miller.
Jim and Judy Kimbrell visited his sister, Judy Beard and family, in St. Joseph Saturday.
Mrs. Mattie Hearn of Lebanon has been moved to NHC in Smithville due to her recent health problems.
Those visiting Mrs. Hearn over the weekend were Mrs. Helen Burt, Mrs. Delores Jones, Bro. Donald Owens and Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Kimbrell.
Our prayers and best wishes go to Mrs. Mattie Hearn.
What a good rain that fell over our valley beginning around  8 p.m. Saturday evening continuing through Sunday with a drizzle on Monday! We give thanks for this rainfall.
Mr. Danny France and Mr. Tim France were the dinner guests of their mother, Ms. Jeanette France, on Mother’s Day.
Mr. Phillip Stanley and family and Mr. Larry Stanley and family, Mrs. Debbie O’Conner and Mrs. Helen Burt were the dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Corley at Alexandria on Mother’s Day.
Good to hear from a nice lady in Smithville, Royce Odom, this week.
May is half gone, and we hope the last tomato plants have been set out. Also we waited almost too late for onion sets, but the kind man at Co-op gave us a bunch that looked dead but with a little water and dirt, we believe they will live.
Mrs. Lisa Cripps visited her mother, Mrs. Louise Frazer, Tuesday evening.
Mrs. Mary Joines is showing some improvement this week. Home Health is helping Mary with therapy. Bro. Donald Owens visited the Joines family Wednesday.
Gardeners who waited until May to plant were happy to see the heavy rain over the weekend. Jeanette France and Jerald and Lisa Cripps had just planted before the rain fell.
Those graduating from high school and college were honored at Dry Creek Baptist Church Sunday morning with a monetary gift.
Honored were Justin Cripps who will receive his doctorate degree in pharmacy May 25 at U.T. Memphis; J.D. Reynolds has earned an associates degree in therapy; and Krystel Bush earned a degree in nursing.
Graduating from high school were Tanner Davis, Jamie Florence, Kidman Puckett and Hailey Speck. We congratulate these fine young graduates.
All mothers were presented a nice gift at Dry Creek Baptist on Mother’s Day.
Mrs. Kathy Hendrix was recognized for her leadership and dedicated service as principal of DCHS, her Alma Mater.
Bro. W.L. Baker of Lebanon was the guest speaker at the evening worship service at Dry Creek Baptist.
On May 24 the seniors at Dry Creek Baptist will go out to eat at Cheddars in Mt. Juliet and go to Providence to shop. They will leave the church at 9:30 a.m.
June 17 the church will celebrate Father’s Day and there will be an offering for Tennessee Baptist Adult. Then on June 24 Dry Creek Baptist will have homecoming with guest minister, Bro. Kenneth Tramel and guest singers will include The Owens and there will be a dinner at noon. Please make plans to attend. Everyone is welcome, Bro. Don Owens, pastor.
