Dry Creek Baptist Church and the family of Bro. and Mrs. Donald Owens had a reception on June 10 at the Dry Creek Baptist Fellowship Hall honoring Donald and Audrey on their 60th wedding anniversary.
During the hours of 2-4 p.m. over 250 relatives and dear friends came to this event to show their love and respect to this lovely couple.
Those coming from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Joe (Carolyn) Dickey and daughter, Cheryl Dunn, Monticello, Ark.; Mr. and Mrs. Bill (Catherine) Cox, Greenbrier; Mr. Richard Frazier, Washington, D.C.; Mrs. Sherry Williams and Mrs. Audrey Frazier, Knoxville; Bro. and Mrs. Jimmy Bond, McMinnville; Bro. W.D. and Jackie Thomason, Murfreesboro; Mr. and Mrs. Boone Cummings, Lebanon; Mrs. Shirley Parker and family, Mr. and Mrs.Edward Frazier, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Hinton, Mr. Edzel Frazier, Mrs. Loyce Holcomb, Mrs. Royce Odom, all of Smithville; Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Parker, Murfreesboro; and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Brockett, Lebanon.
Wedding cake, punch and other refreshments were served. On behalf of the Owens family, a big “Thank You” for a wonderful day to all who were present at this event.
On Sunday afternoon, June 3, Jerald and Lisa Cripps honored their son, Justin Cripps, who received his doctorate from the University of Tennessee School of Pharmacy, Memphis on May 24 and 25 with a reception at their home on Dismal Road, Liberty.
Also being honored was Kathy F. Hendrix, for her retirement as principal of DeKalb County High School. Kathy ended her career in education after having taught several years in elementary education, 20 years as a mathematics teacher, several years as vice-principal and seven years as principal of DCHS.
Justin received many monetary gifts and Kathy was given a beautiful sapphire ring with diamonds from the Frazier family and her children, Kent and Jared Hendrix.

Jared Hendrix, pharmacist, and Justin got a good start in pharmacy when as young boys they worked for a well-known outstanding pharmacist in Smithville, Dr. David Terrell.
Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Kimbrell, Mr. and Mrs. Danny Agee and Mrs. Louise Frazier were at Ligon-Bobo Funeral Home in Lebanon, Sunday, to pay their respect to Mrs. Mattie Hearn, widow of the late Mr. Ed Hearn and a dear member of Dry Creek Baptist Church. Everyone loved this beautiful lady who was truly a dedicated Christian to her church.
Her funeral was Monday at Barton’s Creek Baptist Church with burial in Barton’s Creek Cemetery. Bro. Donald Owens and Bro. W.L. Baker officiated. “To know her was to lover her.”
The parents of the Magness boy who was killed in World War II were Mr. and Mrs. Clay Magness, Blue Springs Road.
The late L.C. Vandergriff of Watertown, born and reared in the valley, was a P.O.W. in World War II.
Joe Frazier, the son of the late Homer and Laura Frazier, received the Silver Star medal for assuming command of his squadron after his commander was killed.
He and Garry Cripps are two soldiers to receive this honor from Dry Creek Valley.
Joe Ronald Frazier was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery. He was a member of Long Range Reconnaissance Patrols, special four- to six-man teams in the Vietnam War on highly dangerous special operations deep into enemy territory, awarded Army Commendation Metal with “V” the Bronze Valor Device, for heroism.
Joe Ronald was the son of Louise and the late Woodrow Frazier.
Loyce Frazier, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Doug Frazier, served in the U.S. Army Vietnam.
A big day to remember at Dry Creek Baptist is June 24 when they celebrate Homecoming with guest minister, Kenneth Tramel. We all love Kenneth. There will be special singers and lunch will be served at noon. There will not be a night service this day. You will be blessed if you attend.
