Dry Creek Flashes
Hay cutting time in the valley
Placeholder Image

It is hay-cutting time in this beautiful Dry Creek Valley. These past two days have been nothing but sunshine, which is needed to dry out the freshly cut hay. Pharmacist/farmer, Jared Hendrix, cut his hay last week. This week is going to be just right for the few farmers who have hay on the ground.
Beside the Hendrix farmers, there is Jerald Cripps from Dismal who is a tool and die man and farmer. He has a big herd of Charley on his farm. Jared Hendrix has Black Angus and his dad Ricky, teacher/farmer, bought more land and is back in the cattle business which delights grandson, Branden Keny, of Lascasses. He loves going to the farm to see the baby calves.
As for housewives and homemakers, this is a very busy time. In many homes, canning for the winter months is not over. Pears, apples, peaches and tomatoes are still available.
Thanks to “cousin” Edward Frazier, the big nursery man of Smithville, the aroma of canned pears and pear honey can be found in the Frazier kitchen.
Also thanks to Jimmy and Becky Womack of Jacob Pillar Road, fresh ripe tomatoes and green tomato pickles have been canned this week.
They enjoyed a day in Amish country last week. Jimmy reports that sweet potatoes and sorghum will be available in September.
Would it be possible that Bro. Donald Owens might make a second trip to Amish country for the seniors?
Bro. Donald is generous and kind and likes to eat. Maybe???
Special get-well wishes go to Debbie O’Conner. She is recovering from surgery at the specialist clinic in Nashville. Her mother  Helen Burt and other relatives have been with her during her illness.
Remember Debbie in your prayers.
Matthew Cripps of Murfreesboro enjoyed his 31st birthday with his family at the home of his grandmother Mrs. Jim Cripps in the Dry Creek Valley Sunday at the noon hour. A special dinner had been prepared by his mother Lisa Cripps.
A delicious ice cream birthday cake was served the by the Cripps family.
Those helping Matthew celebrate his birthday were his wife Melody Cripps, Brigham Ayers, Jerald and Lisa Cripps, Justin Cripps, Jordan and Nicole and Christian, Jim Cripps, Dwight Cripps and Joe Ayers. He received many useful gifts. The family enjoyed fellowship and picture taking.
It was good to talk with Linda Fuston Tuesday. Linda continues to suffer from a severe case of shingles. She is seeing a specialist in Lebanon. Our prayers, love and best wishes go to Linda. Her birthday was Aug. 14.
We were listening to John Pryor announce the DCHS Tigers football game on WJLE Friday night. Wow, did they play football! 50-0 against Warren County. Keep it up Tigers. We are 100 percent for this talented and smart team.
We also are 100 percent for Goodletsville’s All Star Little League team, which beat the San Antonio team on Wednesday evening in the World Series in Williamsport, Pa. The Tennessee team won the game 4-3.
It was good to see and talk with Lavelle Smith at Kilgore’s Restaurant Saturday. Lavelle never changes. She says that she is close behind in age.
I also saw Sara Parker, who is working at DCHS this year.
Sorry to report that Mr. James Hale, a longtime resident of the Dry Creek Valley, is now in Hickory Estates Assisted Living Center in Madison.
Mr. Hale’s health problems have increased so that he can no longer live at his residence on his farm. He will be closer to his family which lives in Goodletsville.
Dry Creek Baptist Church, the little spiritual lighthouse in the Dry Creek Valley, welcomes you to its services.
 Bro. Donald Owens, pastor.
